Does anyone have a photo (or would be willing to take one) of their Genie’s capacitor wiring setup? I pulled the old capacitor out and didn’t take a picture beforehand...whoops. Tried emailing to Baldor & Diamond Pacific (M-F hours of course). There are 2 wires (labeled 1 & 8, coming from the same feed) and a single wire with no label on its own feed. I want to hook it up with the new capacitor but don’t want to risk blowing up the motor! Does wire 1 & the blank wire go together, or 2 and the blank wire?

Mel I can't remember now. I called DP and they walked me through the steps (I wrote them down). Unfortunately I can't find my notes or I threw them out. I would call DP and ask.

No worries hummingbirdstones - My super smart husband figured it out from googling the proper frame number, not the catalog or spec number. I was too busy being mad to be logical (and I can't read electrical diagrams any more than I can read Russian). I'm also not the most.....reasonable person when I'm mad about something I caused myself. I believe some may refer to my behavior as "having a crap attack." BUT! The magical machine is back to life! While there's all kinds of sites/posts saying to replace the capacitor, there are none specifying exactly how to reconnect it all, so I made an Imgur post about it with all the relevant information. Short version is that when you redo the capacitor, you will have 3 wires. 2 in one bundle (#1 and #8) and one solo one that has no label. What you want, is the wire labeled #1 on the same post as the blank wire, and the #8 wire sitting alllll alone on the 2nd post. If you do this incorrectly, you will get either zero action, or hear a humming/buzzing noise. Shut it off IMMEDIATELY if you hear buzzing! Otherwise, you can now go back to making cabs like a crazy person....if you're not tired from being senselessly mad. Hopefully this can help someone else!

Hi Mel - many thanks for the post! I am needing to replace mine, I WILL remember to take pictures and label everything, and the imgur post was great. I appreciate you. I'm not a big DIY guy, but with this hobby, you gotta try to be anyway. UPDATE: I took mine apart. It's an older model Genie. In case anyone stumbles across this post looking for info (as I did) the capacitor in mine is Aerovox Z24P3706M, GUF 370V 50/60HZ

When you remove the old capacitor make sure the motor is on it's side, so the base is not above the motor.
There is a "nut hole" where the capacitor wiring passes through to the motor. Law of gravity is always in effect, so any small objects dropped inside the motor base will pass quickly through the nut hole. Removing said small objects from inside the motor housing will not happen quickly... .

Yep, I saw that :-) so I didn't turn it upside down, but just tipped it on its back to take the bottom plate off and the capacitor was screwed on there... Sorry you are the voice of experience...those of us who hear it are much better off though. Thank you!

The fun part was listening to him cuss while he was trying to get it out!

Yeah, I also saw that hole when I took the cover off. Didn't consider how perfectly the angled sides might funnel small objects right into it.
Had several choice words for the idiot that didn't think it through because he was in a hurry.
