My Personal Earthquake Detector is simple.
Enoch is on the west side the Hurricane Fault that runs North and south, the west side is moving north relative to the east side. We have numerous quakes - quake.utah.edu/wp-content/uploads/Utah2WeekNov25.jpgI have a bookcase that is against a wall that is parallel to the fault. I just slip some plastic containers between the case and the wall. When the quake happens, the vibrations shake the containers out. From the last quake I had to pick them up from the floor and slip them back in place.

My EQ detectors are the doors in my house. Here in CA we have dozens if not hundreds of mini-quakes on an almost constant basis. When my doors stick and are hard to open I know we've had a good though not easily detectable quake; and ditto when the stuck doors become unstuck again. It's an ongoing thing.

I used to work in an office with a low hanging lamp. I tied a string to the lamp chain, and added a big paper clip to the end. If the paper clip was swinging, I knew we were having a quake. At home, we just look for swinging lamp chains. We don’t notice anything under a 4. California. 👍🏻

When I was very young we lived in California. I remember one day playing in my sister's room with her when we thought my dad was shaking the room (that's how young we were). My parents got us out of the house and into the yard where we could see the neighbor mowing the lawn with what looked like a "bouncing" mower...

I live pretty close to the San Jacinto branch of the San Andreas fault system. The Anza section is probably the most seismically active around here and it’s about 21 miles away, as the crow flies. We hear most earthquakes for a second or two before we feel them. Sounds like a freight train barreling at you.
