I am never comfortable identifying rocks by pictures so I could be mistaken but that does not have the look of petrified wood. It may well be and it still will be interesting to tumble. Will be curious to see pictures as it progresses.

Look at images of Gneiss(remelted granite sorta). Granite is a difficult polish but most solid gneiss' will take a polish. Pocks in 3rd photo typical of gneiss.

As stated above the first images looked like a granitic pattern. But the last images look like neither wood or granitic. The latter images look like stratomolite.

I am absolutely no help with an identification, but I agree 100% that it is a pretty stone. It has both an interesting pattern and interesting colors so I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Are the yellow bands undercutting, which might indicate a difference in hardness between the bands.??

Holy smokes! I can't believe it's already been two weeks since you last updated with pics...as in time is flying by!!!
Glad to hear there's no undercutting going on and there doesn't seem to be any loss of patterning going on. I have a lot of prairie agates in that size range that would lose a lot of surface patterning similar to what that stone has...

That looks a lot like some I either found near Lake Superior or in Oregon somewhere. I'll bet wet it just blooms with beauty. But if it's like mine, it never would polish but only would take a satiny sheen with 1,200 SC. I love the patterns in your rocks. It reminds me of the surface of a planet covered in clouds. If you end up with the won't take a polish ending like me, let me know and I'll tell you about a stone trt product that will really pop that pattern at the end.

I think it is an agate from the planet Jupiter. It even has the Great Red Spot sorta. I don't know how it got all the way to Washington State, but the state of Washington is known for unusual happenings. solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/jupiter/overview/

No shortage of volcanic rock around these parts. We have St. Helens in our backyard and her runoff streams all over the place.

I'll send it all the way through rotary wet polish, and then see how it looks. I do have one more trick up my sleeve - a 6lb barrel full of corncob and polish - which has helped with softer stones and things like granite. I think it is an agate from the planet Jupiter. It even has the Great Red Spot sorta. I don't know how it got all the way to Washington State, but the state of Washington is known for unusual happenings. solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/jupiter/overview/It definitely has the look of a planet. That was a fun link to toy around with.

Man oh man this is coming along nicely! I'll agree with Brian and hope that wet pic is an indication of what the end result is going to be like! I've really enjoyed this "ride-along" by the way!
