Showed them to some friends and they wanted to touch and hold them. Never realized I could be so sensitive about my rocks. LOL... I just got an image of a protective mother stressing about folks wanting to hold and touch her babies.

They are finally out and I have impressed myself. I think this is the best polish I've ever produced. Will get some pics as soon as I have some good light. Showed them to some friends and they wanted to touch and hold them. Never realized I could be so sensitive about my rocks. Haha

Just pulled two rocks from my contest batch that are ready for my second stage tumble and that is from 5 weeks in 60/90 the others need a bit more smoothing before moving on. One is a nice yellow/white piece and the other a dark piece with a bit of red and dark green in it. My maroon and white piece took a polish on about 1/2 the surface and the other 1/2 just a dull luster, just wondering if anyone else has had that happen.

On the one rock I've finished, there is a little patch like that which I attribute to porosity in the rock.

I have been tumbling my Stage 1 batches using large Silicon Carbide SiC pebbles that are larger than 3/8 inch and over 1/2 inch.
When I tumbled my Contest Rocks, it appears that I had one of these pebbles traveled all the way through the process and polish up as well as the target rocks.
This is as close as i could get a focus on this polished Silicon Carbide.

Not to sound too cynical but maybe that should be called the leaverite tumbling contest. Definitely not great material and definitely a challenge. Be happy you only have to submit the best pieces. Wow!

So I took a week off from tumbling because of lazyness.
Picked out 10 choice rocks to run one last time in a 3 pound barrel to polish the Polish. Included all the marbles that were used as Smalls as a test to see if I can polish those up too. Plenty of plastic beads and a planned 10 day final polish run. Will be back in a week or so with the results. At that point I believe that I'll send in my 5 best for judging.
I don't think I have used the 3 pound tumbler in a year sure do love my dual 6 pound QT66, just loaded it with an old glass batch that really needed a repolish

I've never heard of using Silicon Carbide SiC pebbles for polishing. Does it work well?
Thanks.

I've never heard of using Silicon Carbide SiC pebbles for polishing. Does it work well? Thanks. I use the large SiC Pebbles in my Stage 1 tumbles, then it is best to remove them before going on any further. That chunk accidentally traveled all the way through the tumbling process without being noticed.

Thanks for showing these! I'm not real experienced, and it gives me inspiration! Well , I'm just interpreting the rocks as they present themselves to me. Please don't consider my pictures as "The Way" they should look.

Just finished about 10 of my contest rocks and some are looking good. As a final polish I used Linde A. I have been trying to post a picture but get the following:

It still amazes me how varied the material is. Aside from them arriving in the same box, I'd have no other idea. I have some that look like yours, none that look like some of them, and others that are entirely different.

Those rocks look really good, JK49. I'm still polishing mine, 1/2 at a time, and I missed a step (a grit) on them. I'm going to go on and finish these though, and do the complete stages with the 2nd batch. Gorgeous material, but really fractured.

All the batches of burris creek jasper are quite different. I wish I received some of the yellow stones. Mustard colored stones are not too attractive. You just do the best you can with what you have. This is my first time entering the contest and am not sure what the judges are looking for?

Mine are coming along, although still not sure which 5 I'll choose. My best example was done and then a little chip broke off of it, so I'm seeing whether that area smooths up in the Lot-O without going all the way back to the beginning. I noticed in the rules that it says that they do not count against you for flaws in the rock, which might end up having some bearing on which ones I use.
