Lot O users. I’ve been struggling getting things correct, especially on the 150/220 stage. Every batch so far has had bad movement and a poor slurry that seemed really thin, but it seemed dry as well. After each dump there’s a thick mass of grit and ceramics at the bottom of the barrel. That means too much water right? I’m wondering if I was starting off with the barrel holding too much water, my slurry not sticking well so it drying out because it’s not moving fast enough making me think it’s too dry so adding more water. This time instead of filling the barrel and draining it well I wet the rocks and media in a colander then added it to the barrel. My movement seems much better so far, is this what it’s supposed to look like? I only added one tbs of grit I want to be sure before I waste more of it.

Hi twistedserpent, A picture would be helpful How big are the rocks? Just one size or different sizes? How full is the barrel? What kind of movement do you have before adding grit? Just the rocks in the Lot-O with no grit.
(On a personal note, are your lot-o fan weights in alignment?)

I’ll get a photo when I get back the link on the bottom of my post was supposed to be a video of it but it’s just showing up as a link for me.
My movement right now after I reloaded it is better, I dropped from 3/4 full to 2/3 full it’s mostly large and small ceramics with the rocks. Yes the weights are balanced.

How much grit are you using? How do you add the grit to the barrel?

I do the water rinse when everything is first loaded, dump that out and add no more water until after I add grit and get the right "look". I add a little grit at a time to let the rocks get an even coating. When they all change color all over, I know its a good coat.
Then I give only a few squirts of water at a time, just until it looks like the coat is allowing for enough movement, but is still evenly covering each rock. Then I check after a couple of hours and add a few more sprays if needed. This method works well for me, even though I'm only new. I don't get anything sticking in the bottom of the barrel.
Good luck!
Ps. I should add, I make sure that movement is correct before I add anything at all. Reduce or add to load as necessary.

I do same as you but I add no extra water until it has run at least 2 hours. Then I check the slurry and see what consistency is. If it looks like thin pancake batter I let it alone. If it looks dull and pasty a squirt or two. I let the wetness of the rocks create the slurry. I also started adding squirts initially but had same issue you had until I adjusted to above method.

Loto is for finish and polish
Loto is NOT for rough grind
