If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner or a fabric gun, a toothbrush with dish soap and hot water works fine to clean polish out of the cracks. Or put them into the dishwasher cutlery basket for a cycle...Just don't tell your wife. See, these are the kinds of things I just don't tell my husband... You’re just giving him extra abrasive. His teeth should be extra clean.

Jason, did you mention the Rumors album merely because it has that track with the words you needed, or do you like the music?

However, Fleetwood Mac is on my list of the top 10 bands of all time. I think Steve Nicks had one of the all-time best tones to her voice. It wasn't just the lyrics to the songs that made them so amazing, it was HOW Stevie sang those words that made them touch my soul...

I'd say pretty darn good, You are kind of limited by the quality of the rough as far as pits of fractures go. Prairies and bubblegums make great tumble fodder. When I was tumbling I'd run my stuff like forever in rough grind and simply throw out stuff that is too pitted etc. More angles you round off the better the finished stones. If you look at commercial tumbles you'll see they really round them off before they leave coarse grind. And remember, the best final polish is created by lots of surface to surface contact. I keep a huge bottle of tiny rounded agates and along with pellets, put a lot of those in with the larger rocks in the tumble batch during pre polish and polish cycle. Those little rocks get into all the curved surfaces etc and give a much more complete polish to stones that are not completely round.

I spend so much time looking for Fairburns when I'm out hounding, I tend to ignore smaller rocks. I need to get a good supply of smaller rocks collected to use as tumbler fodder... I think I need to set the alarm on my watch and commit to spending the first 30 minutes of hounding time to collecting the small stuff. Yeh, right. I'll still be looking to see if any of them have fortifications on them! LOL

Oh I should have specified, the polished smalls I use in the tumbler are about 1/4 inch or so.

The smalls I use are all agate and jasper so they don't wear out. I find equal hardness of contacting surfaces is good to rub the polish around and is good for achieving the final polish but maybe that's just me. Not sure abut hardness for all aquarium gravel. I don't really hunt them. They just come from small chips from other processes like trimming and cracking up rough.

However, Fleetwood Mac is on my list of the top 10 bands of all time. I think Steve Nicks had one of the all-time best tones to her voice. It wasn't just the lyrics to the songs that made them so amazing, it was HOW Stevie sang those words that made them touch my soul... It makes me very happy to read that. I can remember the night when some other graduate students invited me to go to a party to listen to Fleetwood Mac's newest album. I had heard of FM but didn't know their music and in fact wasn't listening to much music at that particular time as I was too busy in grad school. It was a typical party for the time, and after the food and drinks we all laid down on the plush carpet to listen to that album played loud on a great sound system of large speakers on the floor at a volume that shook the floor. But, well into that album, I knew my life had changed and I wasn't the only one. Wow. That music was magical and entered our souls. People who were really into music always lived in houses with crawl spaces and tuned their speakers to make the entire living room floor resonate so that bass notes would penetrate one's body in more than one way if you laid down. Rumors was a very big thing. I think that happened in the summer of 1977 for me. It went on for many events, and often ended with polite marijuana use before we all laid down to listen. I can clearly remember the three most popular albums for these parties: Rumors, Eagles albums (so many legendary, fantastic tracks), Steve Miller Band albums (especially Fly Like an Eagle track). There were others but those were the top three. I was lucky enough to see the Eagle and SMB in concert. SMB held The Joker toward the end, the crowd went insane--truly insane. The Eagles held Hotel California toward the end--the entire building was almost blown apart by the pent up relief--yelling and screaming--when it started. I'll also never forget Kansas saving the Point of No Return to the end--the atmosphere in the arena was indescribable. Today, when a Rumors track come on the radio, my whole body almost shakes. There are the big famous tracks, but for me, The Chain and Oh Daddy are my favs. Thought you might enjoy a little bit of firsthand historical context...so glad you truly enjoy some of the music from this era which is special in my heart. My 19 year old girls love it also which amazes me.
