Definitely can see the Van Gogh influence in that one! My wife keeps saying we need to come up with a project for all the prairie agates we find...she'd love this! hmmm...I wonder if she means a project she can do or one that "I'm" going to do when she says "we"! It might be the latter if I show her this!

That looks pretty cool, but I think it would probably give me a headache looking at it for too long.

Somebody was busy. I don't want my wife to see this because she might want me to make one above our fireplace.

Always knew you were a smart guy Jason (To be fair, I would totally be the wife in this scenario too, until I saw my husband putting rocks The Wrong Way and I would have to correct it, and then I'd just take over while he had to stand by and be "shown how it's done").

When my wife and I were first married, I helped make dinner several times. I'd burn this, or over-measure that. It didn't take too long before she didn't want my help with dinner any longer. I haven't had to help make dinner in years! (In all truthfulness, I ask her EVERY night if she wants help making dinner...and she always says "no"...but I make sure I ask! )

I cannot even put up a Christmas tree without "help". I couldn't imagine the "help" I would get while doing a river rock abstract on a living room chimney.
I considered making my own tiles for a fireplace mantel, but knew there would be issues with everyone I tried to set. "Not that rock, not there, turn it slightly ... For sure, I wouldn't use quick set. In the end, it was easier just to buy the tiles. However, I still think I might do a backsplash above the sink in my downstairs bathroom with silver ore (not a critical room in the house).

Sometimes it's better to do certain projects when the "supervisor" is away for a few days. I learned a long time ago it's far easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission in a LOT of (if not most!) cases! LOL

When I decided to nail up hardwood throughout my upstairs, I sent my wife and daughter to Holland for 2 weeks. I removed the carpet, painted the ceilings, painted the walls, rebuilt the stairs, screwed down the subfloor and changed all of the lighting. No matter how well you sweep, vacuum, mop and clean, the nail gun will blows dust into the air from the subfloor. I only finished the day before their flight home. Still, I did my best to clean up, but mostly removing the pieces of wood, boxes, tools, paint cans and other demolition/renovation debris. Oh yeah, and it was July and a heat wave.....First thing said when my wife got home was a nasty comment about the dust. Could have been a divorce.

I get a lot of characteristics and behaviors from my mother... When I was a young teenager, my dad was in the Air Force and had a job where he was working in the missile silos...gone three days then home three days. My mom kept asking him to make a basement room into a bedroom. He kept stalling. Not a smart move when it came to my mom. Finally, one three day stretch when he was gone, my mom "enlisted" my help and we completely stripped the room of all sheetrock clear down to the studs. Not at all like my dad would've approached the project! So, when my dad got home my mom showed him how we "helped" him get started... He wasn't amused in the least!

greig & jasoninsd , your stories remind me of the time I decided to assist in painting our living room. I opened up a can of paint, took a roller, and made about 3 stripes down every wall (If I so much as look in the direction of the paint aisle, I WILL have half a can all over me. I could never do a reno show.) I was going to finish it, I swear! Amazingly, some magical fairies came by when I was at work and it was completely painted the next day. Huh.
