Does anyone have a good source for petrified wood in Canada? Looking for something bigger than standard tumbler fare (maybe lemon sized) for a special request I got.

Robert Hall Originals in Saint George Ontario sells it. I know a creek in BC that is stuffed with it, but that is a hike from Sask. I think the Texas option above is a good one. ;-)

oldschoolrocker - Thank you! Shipping from Texas would give me a heart attack though. I had a 15 pound box from the Rock Shed shipped last month, and it was $65 USD. greig, you reminded me of an old timer I knew (know?) in BC. Maybe I'll hit him up again. Darn hobbies....Shipping is where all the cost is....

Let me tell you, I am watching the news with heavy anticipation (and planning to get myself a US mailing address). Based on oldschoolrocker 's generous offer, I may have to price out shipping.

All you need is a friend on the US side of things who will hold packages for you and or route things your way opportunistically. Sharing is part of the game.

I am in Canada, but the pieces I have around that size are from my province, Alberta. So there's so very much regulation about petrified wood.
I have been looking into filling out the correct forms for disposition, but they do not seem to make it easy. I cannot find it anywhere. Alberta with its absolute obsession with fossil fuels, has tons of forms for land disposition and mineral disposition. I am likely going to reach out to the lapidary club next. I want to join them, but this pandemic has stopped me from really joining any organizations that meet in person. Who knows how long it will be allowed for? I would hate to buy a membership I could not use.

I forgot to update here! oldschoolrocker generously sent me a large box of it a ways back. I’m still trying to find some bigger pieces but am well covered for my initial project; just need to finish slabbing & polishing the last of it!

How big are the pieces you’re looking for? I’ve got some larger pieces that I won’t be able to use for a project I have. They’ve got five days left in stage one. So most of the limestone will be off and will be able to see what colors they are. Mostly brown, yellows and reds. I can send pics to you if you’d like when they come out. Lots of pieces baseball to softball size. Also lots of longer pieces 2” diameter 7”-10” long. If you need larger I’ve got it but it’s rough. Lots of big pieces to 20lbs. Anyway let me know I’ll send some your way. John
