Hahaha, you're the best, Grant. I love that stone! The detail in the third pic is great; macro is so cool. Glad you have a new toy and the opportunity to experiment. I look forward to seeing your new pics!

Congrats on the new toy!!! I'm just enamored with macro shots! I'm not sure I'd have the guts to take macros of some of my tumbles or cabs! LOL However, I'd love to try and get some macros like this of some of the Fairburns I've found.

Great looking photos! They look nice and sharp and your subject was very willing to show off some nice details.
And you can’t just tease us with saying you got a new lens. I need details! Which lens did you get and which camera are you using? I love macro photography and no matter what camera I’ve had, a macro lens was always one of my first purchases. I’ve been reading way too much about some of the new bodies that have been released and am feeling the itch to get something new. (Knowing full well I should really just make better use of what I already have.)

It is a APS-C sensor and E-mount. The macro lens is a nice piece of glass: Zeiss Touit f2.8/50mm macro lens. It is also an APS-C lens and E-mount only so I have destined myself to stay with APS-C for the future

The third picture I swear I see three hobbits traveling in a small boat on a river thru a canyon! All jokes aside these are great pics of a neat piece. Truly puts a different perspective on the cool stuff we tumble.

Is the material in the picture from the Tx. Big Bend area? It’s some kind of Texas rio grande agate, likely got it from Jeremy Able at riverbend lapidary

I was hoping to buy one of the Sony NEX cameras back in 2012, which is around the same time yours was released. I think I may have even ordered it, but my daughter arrived several weeks early and it wasn’t going to arrive nearly in time, so I went with a Olympus micro 4/3. I still regret not getting a Sony because I have heard nothing but good things about them, and the latest ones seem to get universally glowing reviews. The Zeiss lenses get equally positive reviews. I also have a Canon 6D with the 100mm macro lens because it was the cheapest way to get into full frame at the time. It’s a great combo. I have a few Canon lenses that I really like, so I have been reading up on the R6. Mirrorless is amazing and I would love to get a full frame mirrorless system.

I'd have to do a lot of homework now if buying a new camera, there are so many to chose from! Since I have committed to more expensive lens that are APS-C I'm going to have to stick with that sensor system when I upgrade. I'm thinking the sony a6600 eventually.. no rush now, but I expect that will be my next logical upgrade to stay E-mount and APS-C.

I had a Canon with APS-C sensor and had several lenses for that. When I went to upgrade the body, I didn’t like the APS-C options, so I ended up going with the full frame Canon which could use my two favorite lenses and then the Olympus because the big body and big lenses often got left behind when traveling light. The micro 4/3 system is amazingly compact, but I was never as happy with the images I got from it.
