Very nice. I think you did a pretty good job with dapping for your first attempt. The larger pieces are aways a little more difficult to dap evenly. I just wish the pictures didn't have so much glare, so I could see the stone better.

I had to look up dapping! I think I get it. I think it looks great...but I don't know what you're seeing that needs work. I like the contrast in the smooth bezel versus the "rougher" surrounding piece. I think it helps the stone "pop"!

My wife sold it.

The dish shape visually looks perfect but when you run your finger over it you feel the transitions in the radius. YOU know what it is like to be a perfectionist eh?😁

Bill your efforts are awesome to look over.
I've wondered if a trailer hitch ball would work as a possible substitute for a dapping block (I'm amazed at the price of them) but they've all got that flat spot right on the top

My back plate had texture so I could not use steel anyway. I used a wooden dapping block I purchased off Amazon for less than $20 CDN. It came with 2 wooden punches and had 6 different radiuses. It work well as long as the silver was annealed.

The steel ones are waaaay expensive (especially the one I covet the most). I have wood ones and also a metal one that was gifted to me recently that has smaller sizes.

brotherbill hummingbirdstonesI hadn't seen the wood ones. Something to consider 👍 That also explains the texture not being affected. Thank you!
