Hey mohs , Since you asked about the driftwood pictures in the other thread, I thought I would post a video I shot several years ago of some wave and log action during a storm. The picture is of a carnelian that I found a few hours later after it was safe to go down on the beach. No sound?! I was anticipating the loud crashing sounds of the logs beating the crap out of each other, destruction mode. Wouldn't want to be in the water with them.

Brian - Wow Brian! You got an amazingly beautiful shine on those! I don't think I like any of the colors/variations more than any of the others...they're all gorgeous! Thanks, Jason! They are fun rocks to tumble and just appreciate in their natural form. What you can’t really tell in those quick photos is the incredible patterning within the rocks. There are a lot of fortifications that are just barely visible, as well as some mossy-looking areas in others. When I get a chance (and more tumbled) I’m going to post a thread to show off some of the more interesting details.

brian fine stones and tumble do you where & what the back lit brown/blue streaked chalcedony is ? good rock! Thanks, Ed! That backlit one seems to fit the description of Newport Blues provided by amygdule. Before tumbling, they have a bluish-gray appearance with a bit of white on them. After a short time in the Lot-O, some started looking more blue, others more gray, and others revealed a translucent interior. amygdule has a great eye for picking out these little beauties and I can’t wait to show off more of them. The next batch in the tumbler has some lovely jaspers that are shaping up well.

Thanks for posting those pictures fernwood! The backlighting really shows off the amazing patterns in them. I have had some of them running since they arrived. They look amazing ocean-tumbled, so I have been taking it very slow. I have also been working somewhat backwards by taking them through polish in the Lot-O to see their full potential before putting them in coarse to reshape them.

Can see how it would help.

fernwood Brian Here's some of the little blue pebbles that I put directly into polish with a Mini-sonic vibe for a week. They started to take a decent shine, but I should have run them longer.

Thanks for posting those! Among the boxes you sent me, those are probably my favorites due to the unusual coloring and fascinating patterns. They were also the ones I was most worried about with too coarse of a grit. Most of them seem to have a translucent interior with the blue layer being very thin on some. I just took out one today that has been in coarse for about 2 weeks that looks like a broken slice of an agate. It still has blue on the top and bottom, but a lovely banded interior. Once that one is polished up, I will post some pictures.

Those Newport Blues are such beautiful agates! They really seem to come alive when they are tumbled.

The blue agates are rare down at this particular beach along the volcanic headlands.
