Hey everyone,
I'm Wyatt, I live in the boring town of Goldsboro in eastern North Carolina, I work in biopharmaceuticals and I am an amateur rock tumbler.
(Story time!) I started this adventure as a fun little thing to do with my 3 year old daughter to teach her the importance of patience and the old anecdote "all good things come to those who wait" (or does the early bird get the worm...hmmmm). But....its become kind of a thing now and has turned into a healthier and more therapeutic outlet for my rather addictive personality.
I am still in the beginner/amateur tier. The spawn and I started this venture with the Natty Geo Walmart special and have since upgraded(?) to the infamous Dual 3Lb Rotary Tumbler from Harbor Freight DUN DUN DUN, and I know, I know...i've been told its junk but its been working great so far, i've had it 6 months and its been constantly running for about 5 months 30 days and 12 hours (I lost half a day because I thought it would be a grand idea to tighten the belt up before going to work.....yeah not so much!). I have made a few modifications to the barrels and replaced those crummy stop tabs that wore to a mere nub after 2 days with a shower door roller left over from my bathroom remodel (works better than I imagined). I am currently running pet wood in step 1 and a bunch of agates, cherts, and jaspers in the polish step.
Unfortunately I have to buy most of my rough online because I live in a rather geologically boring place and that just seems to be the most convenient at the moment blah blah blah. I do have a big box of rocks I inherited from my Grandfather that is full of rather large pieces of obsidian, iron concretions, flints, fossils, crinoids, and even some stalagmites..(shhhhh) but I don't think any of it is able to be put in a tumbler (I could be wrong though). So if anyone has any cool rocks for me to tumble that would be amazing, or if anyone can point me to someone on here that knows a thing or two, or knows of anywhere to hunt for cool rocks and minerals from Raleigh to the coast that would also be amazing.
Phew! well if you made it this far you are probably safe to assume I am some weirdo that likes rocks and has an unorthodox obsession with parentheses oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯...but seriously I am all about the process and the learning and education that goes into it and you know... yadda yadda yadda..
Anyhow thats me, I hope to learn something from this pretty cool and knowledgable community. Peace out!
(Oh yeah, if you want to reach me outside of the forum my email is wvied0@gmail.com)
