I’m looking to do a basic baguette facet on a stone (nothing fancy). I have a Hi-Tech 8” flat lap but that’s about it. I don’t mind buying a faceting arm (please don’t flame me for not using the exact term if it’s wrong), but I don’t want to spend a thousand bucks on one nor buy a really cheap one off Amazon if it doesn’t work well.
Does anyone in here have any suggestions or recommendations as to what exactly I’ll need for this? I’m also only trying to do the top of a stone/cabochon with the facet.
Thanks in advance!
Jimi
Edit: I can’t just hold the piece or dop stick at an angle as I won’t be able to keep the same angle the whole time and hands can get shaky after a while as well.

Actually, HE named it a cabojohn. In John's own words, posted on Feb 7, 2005: So, naturally, everyone called them that. Coincidentally, John Sand's birthday was yesterday, and we all missed it. (Thinking of you now, John. We all miss you.) Yesterday was also Bluesky78987 Bluesky Susan's birthday. Happy belated birthday,Susan. Hope you had a fun and memorable day!

I didn't say we named it, I said we call it that in his honor. Silly woman.

I can possibly help, I am a facetor.
Is this a one off or are you thinking of getting into faceting?
If it's a one off try a local club, they might be able to get you started. Membership is going to be cheaper than buying a machine. It's also worth having a look at someone actually doing it if you are thinking of taking it up as a hobby.
A decent faceting machine could set you back a few thousand dollars easily, then laps and accessories start to add up on top of that. One of those cheap faceting arms and handpieces could get you out of trouble if you aren't particularly looking for accuracy for a couple of faceted top only stones. If you are thinking of having a go at faceting they will be an endless source of frustration and will quickly kill your enthusiasm.

pauls, he basically just wants to cut a baguette style top on a stone, but wants to be able to keep the angles the same on all sides. He has a 8" Hi-Tech flat lap. I thought a jamb peg deal with allow him to do that very easily.
