Oh man I wish I was closer to Indiana! Looks like a very organized lapidary shop and I'm betting there is some really nice stuff in those bins

What the heck is this?
I know we are all used to motors turning rock tumbling and grinding equipment, but this looks to me like a fan blower, commonly called a squirrel cage. Hard to tell from the angle of the photo.
Could be considered lapidary equipment, if you are using it to cool yourself while rock grinding, or to blow dust away.
This one is driven by a motor driving a belt. (The pulley is missing in this photo, it mounts on the shaft.)
This one the motor is internal, mounted directly on the squirrel cage. Useful for blowing smoke out of weld shops, or airborne oil particles from burnt cutting oil in machine shops.
Squirrel cages move A LOT of air!

Oh dang... I just noticed all those Lortone barrels... good grief. I counted 13 barrels sitting on the shelf, but where is the tumbler(s)? With that many barrels, I was hoping to see some mind-blowing tumbler assembly.

As someone who has never done the estate sale thing, how does something like this work? I saw something about a sign up sheet available two hours before the sale. Is this an auction type setting?

Estate sales are different from auctions. Everything is priced and works like a high end garage sale. The sale is set up throughout the entire home. We have a sign up sheet and allow a limited number of people in the home at any given time. The sign up sheet let’s us know who was in line first. It helps us with crowd control. Some people get there very early to ensure entrance to get the things they want. Sometimes we have over 100 people waiting when we open. We obviously can’t just open the door and let everyone in at once, it would be chaos. People are allowed into the home in the order they signed the list. Usually only 10-20 at a time. We did have someone contact us (maybe from this forum?) that was interested in all of the rocks and rock polishing equipment. We do discount if you buy in bulk!

I think if you’re considering bypassing the estate sale for the rocks and all equipment it would be more than expected to let us know here as it seems members may be considering driving hours to come there. Either the items will be available first come first serve - or they won’t. Can you confirm which?

I literally had no idea how this thing was going to play out. I am considering driving 9 hours round-trip and have to weigh out the odds of coming home empty handed, much like anyone else who attends.

Maybe I can convince the wife that I need to make a road trip to northern Indiana. While she might say yes, I might have a hard time convincing my employer that I need to take time for for an estate sale I could always try ... Looks like a great sale.

Surely you have some ailing relatives in northern Indiana?

We are not selling anything prior to the sale. It is definitely first come, first serve! So get there early to get on the list!!! Someone asked about tumblers. There are definitely tumblers at this sale! I’ll try to figure out how to add pics.

Drat! If I had seen this before RIGHT NOW, I might have been able to fast-talk my cousin in Valparaiso to pop over for me.
