Can anyone help with ID? Found on my property (location on Avitar) by my tenant or one of his youth 4-H/FFA students. It is rock picking season. They are leaving all rocks along the fence line. At first I thought it was just Granite, but after cleaning, I am not sure. Have never seen any Granite here with the Blue/Green colors. I soaked the piece for a few days, then used a scrub brush. The black areas are mostly the rock. The little red areas are also unique, as is the pitting. There are some areas that look like fossils to me. This is a heavy piece. About 7 mohs. Very tight grained. Wet and dry photos. Thank you. [img

Sorry, photos looked fine on laptop, but are washed out when I see them here.

Does look like granite to me. Blame the glaciers for leaving stuff everywhere. I always do.

Love the blame the glaciers. I have a lot of granite on my land. Never found any that was this tight grained, pitted or with the blue/green areas before. The areas that look like fossil shell are also strange.
This is why I am perplexed.

I don't see the blue/green that you are talking about... but I have learned that I do not perceive blue or green the way most people do. I used to think that people were calling something "blue" or "green" when it was not were just doing it to annoy me. Also it has lead to considerable confusion at times, as in, Me: "I thought you said to meet you at a GREEN car! I've been looking for you for half an hour!" Her: "This IS a green car!"
Me: "I thought you said you were going to wear a green shirt." My mother: "Yes." Me: "Then why are you wearing a blue shirt?" My mother: "I'm not."
I definitely see blue and green -- I am wearing both colors right now -- but apparently I am missing something somewhere, as the above examples have happened repeatedly, in different situations. I may have the answer, finally. Recently I went to the eye doctor. I asked if I am developing cataracts (getting near that age). Dr. said, no, just the ones you were born with. What??? He explains that I have bilateral congenital cataracts, in fact the center sutures where they formed are distinct enough that, "If you lived in a big city they'd want you in all the time so the students could study you." Good news is, they are thin, unlikely to change, and do not have a significant impact on visual acuity. It was all such a surprise that I didn't think to ask about the green thing, so that is just my guess. Or there could be some other eye weirdness I have.
Long explanation.

I'm thinking that the cataracts may slightly skew my color perception. Or maybe it's something with my cones. The car was grey to me.

Looks a bit more like a Syenite than Granite from these images.

Yooperlites are basically Syenite. Maybe I need to get a UV light and see if this glows.

I have the same problem and I don't have cataracts. I simply can't tell the difference between some shades of green and blue. Is it blue or is it green?
