Hello all I am new and was wondering if stainless steel shot can be used to tumble stone shards to smooth them out? I aquired stainless steel shot from my workplace to use as shot. How can I use that to smooth out stone?
With kind regards Patricia (Mightycat Creations)

Might work if you add some sand, but still slower than Silicon Carbide grit. Probably won't work at all past Stage 1 . The shot will grind down to nothing really fast.

Stainless steel is a Moh's of 6.3 MAX with most being closer to 5.5. Most tumbling rock we use is a Mohs 7. My prediction is that it will do nothing other than get smaller and probably leave streaks on the rocks.

Ok thanks for your input. I got answers for it that it is more for tumbling metals glad I am asking people about it, I would not want to ruin any stone pieces.
