Finally found a 1/6 hp motor...now to plan ver 2.0 diy tumbler. I wonder where I stashed those pillow block bearings?

Those older steel motors run hot, and have no temperature protection circuit breaker. If you want to leave it running unsupervised I would select a spot far from combustibles and plug it into a GFCI outlet.

If you're anything like me, you put those pillow block bearings in just the right spot where'd you'd never lose them...which means they're not "lost"...they're just not "found" yet! LOL

I have that EXACT motor on my 1940's Buffalo Forge drill press. THEY RUN VERY HOT!!!Not really meant for continuous duty, but they can do it as long as they get plenty of fresh air. They are nearly impossible to stall and are a snap to rebuild as long as the motor has not melted down. I added a fan blade to mine just to move air around while it runs, but it kept hitting the belt so I gave up and just run a small fan on it when I'm doing a lot of drilling.

I guess the search will continue for a 1/6 hp motor Why 1/6hp? A ¼hp newer motor with a 1.35 service factor, like the ones I get for about $90 on Amazon, is going to consume less electricity than the one you have, especially with a minimal load on it.

Not even sure these old motors I find at yard and garage sales list service factor. I am sure I don’t know what service factor is...lol.

LOL To be sure that I would be accurate I looked it up, and discovered that I was wrong in my definition. Service factor is how far over the rated HP and amps it will run safely for short periods. I had it confused with power factor, which is basically correcting AC power for efficiency. So any basic newer style ¼hp motor will serve your purpose fine.

Rockoonz , that sounds like the exact motor I picked up a while ago. Here it is running my latest contraption. Those old motors are neat in their own way, but not really worth messing with in my opinion.
