As a retired geologist and mineral collector I was asked to evaluate the collection of a rockhound who had been collecting since the 1960 and did a fair bit of lapidary work. There are several pieces of very old and very rough lapidary equipment on the property that will probable end in the dump or sold as scrap. The property is being sold and must be cleared out
18' or 24' inch saw with blade with motor late 1950s early 1960s 10 inch highland park style trim saw with motor motor and single arbor with SC wheel and polishing pad homemade? 6' trim saw combo unit with 8' SC wheels but no motor could be star diamond unit? Vertical 6' dual polishing unit
I do not know if anything runs or if the bearings are free as no power is available. None of the stuff has been used since the late 1990s and it was left out in the weather in a open car park. I have watched several of you do some great restoration work and want to give members here first shot at it if someone is interested. The equipment is located in Southern California and one could probable get everything in a full size pickup. If this does not work I am going to offer to write an add for Craig's list for the owner and that will be the end of it. I have no financial interest in this at all but just like to see it saved if possible. I have a few photos but no not have permission to post them on the internet. If interested email me at rewdownunder@gmail.com and I can sent the photos I HOPE THIS IS OK TO POST.

Thanks for thinking of me, Pat. But I've got to pass on it. Not ready to take on new projects right now.

Looking forward to them. How much did you salvage? Make it a group project with your money? Parts can be cheap, depending. Stay away from China bearings for now. Navel jelly will break rust down.

NRG Please post pics of your find! Nothing so far. The woman in charge has overvalued the equipment. So i am waiting for her to learn that.

Hate that. Have met people who want to sell for a certain price, and will let it turn to a pile of rust before coming down on it. Thanks for the followup. Hopefully the Lady in charge will come down in time.

stillrockinpdx considering the thread went silent, most likely it ended up in non-RTH hands. Oh, the humanity. After a quick check it seems NRG hasn't posten anything since the day he posted this. As I recall he was stepping into a busy phase of life around the time this stuff showed up, perhaps he's smarter than me and won't haul multiple trailer loads of projects home when there are more pressing tasks to complete. You out there Scott?

Good to see that you still lurk... Are you CO or still CA? I'm now AZ. Jugglerguy is the Rob of YouTube fame, the star among us. Love his videos, and if I start a conversation with a new rock friend, it's amazing how Michigan Rocks comes up in the conversation so much. Rob, you are wanted as a speaker by the West Valley Gem and Mineral club.

If people started asking questions, I think they'd quickly realize that I don't know too much!

The property in question was sold to a developer and the equipment was never sold as far as I know. The person that had the equipment looked online and thought it was worth new equipment prices. I tried to help them understand but in the end I think it was all removed with the rest of the junk on the property in order to close the sale. Not a great loss to the hobby but I think a few of the pieces could have been restored.

RockoonzWe are still in California. Jeannie and I are still planning to retire to Coldorado. She has a little less than 6 years left for full retirement benefits. Then we are gone. On a rather sad note, on the way home from our Colorado Christmas run we rolled my truck on highway ice and its totalled. Plus side is they gave me more than I paid for it. Bad news is I dont have a truck! 😔
