Hello again everyone Today I thought I'd ask what your thoughts are on these rocks, as I'm currently stumped and confused.
I'm still pretty new to rock hounding and identifying rocks. I did see the "Before you post how to ID rocks with 6 tests" thread, but I tend to get even more confused while trying to identify rocks. I am a pretty visual person, and once I learn I can understand, it just takes me a bit to get there lol! So any help would be greatly appreciated <3 I'd love to learn more, if you have any extra info, as well!
I've mostly taken videos of these, as I feel as though that's been the best way I can figure out how to show the size, shape, color, and details of the rocks! Please definitely let me know if you need any more info, and feel free to just name one if you don't know all of them. Anything helps
Also, for reference, I live in southwest Tennessee and that's around where these were picked up at. Most were found in a creek pretty much directly off of the Mississippi River, near a heavily forested hill. There was a cliff of the hill that must erode into this creek, and I believe there was a lot of what I assume was clay. I also hear we get Arkansas gravel, if that's relevant at all here.
A. Little "Strawberries":
Completely opaque, waxy luster. This Mississippi Gravel Deposits PDF has an image that looks pretty similar to these, and they say that it's bloodstone? Any other images I've seen of bloodstone don't look like this, though.
B. Are any of these petrified wood??:
#1. Has some black scum leftover at the bottom. Most of it is opaque, but the bottom has some translucency, even with the scum. Waxy luster, almost glassy at the bottom.
#2. Most of the reddish striped area is translucent, the rest seems to be opaque. Majority of it is very waxy, almost glassy luster.
#3. Barely any translucency, almost all opaque. Waxy luster.
#4. Noticeably translucent pretty much everywhere, waxy luster. Looking at this again, I notice small details that remind me of fortification, although I'm unsure that they are.
#5. Barely any translucency, almost all opaque. Waxy luster. Feels a bit more porous than the others, perhaps? The black bits on this are also leftover scum, I believe.
#6. Noticeably translucent, but only at the front, flatter side. The outside almost feels more like a host rock perhaps, but still has the patterning on it, as well. Waxy luster, even on the backside/outside.
#7. Translucent, but only at the darker brown areas. The small area showing some of the inside has some banding, kind of reminds me of a waterline agate. Waxy luster.
#8. Translucent, only at the darker brown areas. Waxy luster.
C. This one is so cool! But I have no clue. Some sort of agate, with red/yellow jasper on the back? But the side has breccia??
Front, darker side is translucent, back red/yellow side is opaque. Waxy luster.
D. From what I've seen online, I'd guess that this is some sort of chert or jasper? However, it is noticeably translucent. Waxy luster.
E. Absolutely no clue.. maybe some form of quartz or agate? Its noticeably translucent, but the lighter streaks are not so much. A bit of a waxy luster, but only on the darker bits, not the lighter streaks.
F. No clue lol. Its almost a dark blue-ish black. Completely opaque. A bit of a waxy luster.
G. Some sort of non-banded agate, perhaps? If so, does this have a specific name for this swirly patterning?
Noticeably translucent in some areas, but not fully all over. Waxy luster.
H. Smokey Quartz maybe? I haven't seen any quartz pieces with black until this one.
Translucent. Slightly waxy luster, with some areas being shimmery.
I. Some sort of blue Quartz? What would this be classified as, just blue Quartz or something else?
Noticeably translucent. A bit of a waxy luster, with a bit of small shimmer.
