Thanks for letting me join the Forum. I am a 60 year mineral collector with over 5000 cataloged specimens. I started collecting petrified wood 20 years ago and stopped when I had a couple thousand pounds. Got into agates in 2009 after marrying a rock licker/cab maker/faceter. Recently bought a vibratory tumbler and four barrels at a club auction. I have lots of little pieces of petrified wood and agate I have found or cut that needs polishing. Will be looking for tips on how to use my tumbler. Need advice on grits, sources for same, media (ceramic and others), etc.

Greetings, What size rotary tumblers did you acquire? Tumbling and polishing a couple thousand pounds of petrified wood is totally doable, but, is going to require a lot of grit. Depending upon your location it would be prudent to buy grit in bulk--if I had a supplier in my area I would check to see if I could avoid the shipping costs.

Hi and welcome from Northern Arizona!
You have come to the right place for tumbling advice. The Rock Tumbling Board has a plethora of information in it already, but you can always start a thread and ask any specific questions you have. Have fun!
