Hi--I love this forum! Anyhow, my Thumbler B barrel liner is done for and I couldn't find a replacement so I purchased a brand new Lortone QT12 I fired it up for the first time last night (with a full load) and it was working fine. But, when I checked it this morning the motor was making a grinding sound and the barrel was barely turning. I weighed the loaded QT12 Barrel on a bathroom scale. It was between 20-25 pounds (closer to 20.) Did I just overload it? I put 2 empty Lortone 6 lb. barrels on it and they turned great. Or is it a problem with this particular motor? Should I contact the company I bought it from? Also, does anyone have a small weight scale recommendation that would weigh a large tumbling barrel up to say 40 pounds--and do it accurately? I don't think my bathroom scale is very accurate Thank you!!! S

I rarely weigh any barrels, bowls, etc. but any time I have I am well over the listed capacity, never been an issue. Fill to 75% +/- and the weight is what it is. Cannot diagnose your issue with that info but if the grinding is coming from the motor contact the seller ASAP. Assuming belt and pulley is fine. If your determined to weigh, the first scale in that range that comes to mind would be a shipping/receiving scale like this: www.amazon.com/Update-International-UP-9100-Shipping-Receiving/dp/B000X1M2Y8?th=1. RockTumbler.com has many Thumler parts in stock including the Model B liner. Just curious, did you wear yours out? Our older Model B is going on three years old and has never stopped running, the liner hardly has a scratch in it. Nothing against the Lortone (we also have a QT-66) but we love our Model B's, with the exception of the thin lid gaskets, but replacements are readily available or you can make your own.

Thanks. The model B is VERY old...actually it is an old SEARS brand tumbler with the same barrel as the B. I bought the thick top gasket, but the barrel liner was leaking all over. I tried to fix it with a bike tube repair kit, but 2 sides are worn so thin they can't be repaired.
Forget the scale...I shouldn't have muddied up the question.
Is it normal for the Lortone QT12 to fail when overloaded??? Please advise

On a Lortone tumbler , Never worry about the weight.

check is tumbler level, is anything loose. No metal grinding should occur only rock grinding.

On a Lortone tumbler , Never worry about the weight. Same here. I've had barrels full of hematite, no telling how heavy, and no issues. Never weigh my loads.
