I was recently given an MDR faceting machine bonze color base & mast. It is in almost new condition but the prior owner removed the motor, speed control and the power cord and switch for another project before his death. What can I replace it with to get it working. HP? RPM AC or DC The laps are new in the packages so it may never have been used. What direction does the table need to turn? I would like to try this out but do not want to spend a lot of money on a new machine.

rewdownunder, how new is the faceting machine? If it is very new, you might be able to get to the company website and find all those materials. If it is old, maybe look through the other results on Google. Hope that helps.

thanks they last made this model in the late 70s and the company is long gone. I do not need original parts as all they do is turn the 8" table. I just need to know some of the specs so I can go looking for a motor. I think the original one was DC with a speed control of some kind. I am new to this and have never done Faceting in my life.

An early Australian faceting machine used a AC brushed motor(sewing machine motor) with a light dimmer for a speed controller, It worked OK but they were noisy and very tiring to use because of the whine. Later models came out with a DC motor.
My faceting machine uses a Baldor DC motor AP233021. That is a 130V 1800RPM motor so there must be a bit of electronics in the control box to do the magic.
If it was me I would be taking the whole thing to a Electric motor specialist and seeing what they can do.
As far as speed goes I am not sure, 100 RPM tops, adjustable to zero. That's a guestimate, there's no way it's turning at 1800RPM even before the pulleys step it down.
