Hi, longtime member here but I don’t login that much these days. I am looking to sell most of my lapidary equipment. It’s some saws, grinders, and a few other things. I have some project grinders, things I have been meaning to update and haven’t. I have decided to scale down and just keep a big slab saw, one grinder, and the tumblers. I don’t think I’m going to get back into cabbing and if I do I’ll get new equipment then.
Does anyone here have advice on selling equipment? Should I sell locally or on the forum and what is the best way to ship heavy equipment if I do so? How do I figure shipping charges? Should I check over all the equipment or just sell it as it’s been sitting for many years?
Thanks, Steve

Hi!
My thoughts
First, I'd put some pictures up here. Many members in CA and surrounding states and some may even be willing to pay shipping Also, there are several Gem and Mineral societies in and around your area. Call them up and advertise in their newsletters. Sell as IS unless your willing to invest the time to look them over

There are a few options I can think of. Like MsAli said, post them on the RTH Marketplace board and with your nearby clubs. If it were me, I would do local pick-up only. You can also list them on Ebay as local pick-up only. Facebook also has Marketplace groups. I'm sure there are some in your area and surrounding towns.
Whether you sell it as-is or not is totally up to you. I would probably at least plug them in and see if they run. People will want to know at least that much. Shipping machines (unless it is small) is a huge hassle and really expensive. Don't know that there are many people willing to pay $100 or more in shipping charges.

Hey rocklicker I’m interested and within driving distance so I could pick it up locally, let me know what you are looking to part with. I’m interested in saws, arbors, flat laps, faceting machines, rocks… Stop by Napa and pick me up?

Thanks, Steve Hi Steve the suggestions put forward are good ones - I would venture to guess that with the local presence here in n.CA we could get a good deal of it sold for you pretty quickly through the forum. Pictures are the key and I can assist you with that if you need it - you are welcome to email me photos and I can help you post them.

rocklicker just out of curiosity, how much would your cheapest cabbing machine cost? I definitely can't afford them new.
