EDIT - Had to apologize to woodman - it was actually roy who suggested live oak for the piece here we bought at Quartzsite 2020.
woodman - Here's the "full round" from what you said was probably live oak from Hampton Butte when we asked after Quartzsite 2019 2020.
A guy we'd bought Hubbard Basin wood from said it might be some kind of fern, but your reply to our query was confirmed by some very scholarly papers I found online. Very few ferns at the location this would've come from - and lots of live oak. Thanks again for that.
Anyway - here it is. It's 10" x 7" x 2-1/4" (at the thickest part) and has "natural" edges all around. No sawed edges, anyway. Weighs 6.4 lbs.
We like it. Had to take it to the club's workshop to get it on a saw big enough to take this off in one piece.

Thanks, y'all.
The chunk this come from was one of those "gotta' have it" pieces, even if we could only guess what might be inside when we bought it.
jasoninsd - I was buying the "fern" ID someone gave us until roy pointed us in the right direction.
If you search online for Hampton Butte petrified wood rough you'll see a few similar pieces.

Had to edit this post to credit roy for telling us this piece wasn't likely to be any kind of fern.
I "mis-remembered" that it was woodman because he has helped us with answers to so many pet wood questions.
Added a link to the original thread. It has a couple of close-ups of the inside of one end of the chunk.

Thanks, Tela.
With luck, we'll have some slabs from that chunk in the next few weeks.
'Bout time, huh... .
