I have about 7or 8 pieces that I have in a rough shape but I have 2 that I keep going back to try to shine up with no luck. I ordered some silicon carbide disks up to 2000 grit after that I will polish with cerium oxide. I have no plan after that but either way I'll post my results. Thanks for your help jasoninsd I think I'm actually going to try and see what I can do with the Dremel on at least one of them. I'm going to want to wear a respirator, but I have to shave first...and I'm in no hurry for that at the moment! LOL OK jasoninsd. I received my silicon carbide sanding paper today. I went to work immediately. First let me explain what I purchased. I bought a 5 inch velcro backing pad for my hand held grinder. Also I bought velcro circular sanding disks from 320 grit - 2000 grit compatible with the backing pad. Instead of mounting the hand held grinder to my bench I held the obsidian piece in one hand and the grinder in the other and dipped the obsidian piece in water as I went. I started at 320 and finished at 2000 grit. I know kind of crude but I must say " It Shined" I'm not sure how to post pictures yet but I will look into that soon. I have to mention that I used a dimmer on the grinder to slow down the speed on the grinder it a bit. I only could find highest 2000 grit but I'll bet it could shine a bit better with some higher grit. From now on I'm only going to use my 80,120 and 260 diamond grit hard disks for basic shaping then finish up with the silicon carbide.

When I first started making cabs, I did it with my Dremel. I actually have sandpaper up to 3000 and make my own sanding disks for the Dremel. Now that you've got these done, it puts a little fire under my tail to get mine done! LOL As soon as you can figure out pictures, I can't wait to see your results!

Seems my 3000 diamond hard disk was the problem. I like the way the velcro backing plate and paper was a little flexable. Looking at you pictures those are deep grooves. Deeper than the ones I had. Make sure you start low grit and find one that will slowly eat them away. That is a great idea to make your own dremel disk. I have 3000 grit paper I'll try to make one. How the hell do you post a picture on here?? lol
