Hello All,
I'm heading to the UP soon for vacation and am eager to be outside looking for rocks! From Marquette to Au Train to Munising to Grand Marais are there any sites, already booked a Pictured Rocks tour, that I don't want miss? This is my first time there and I won't be able to pack any hounding gear but I plan to ship rocks home :-)
Thanks Y'all! Michael

A lot of the good beaches to pick can require driving on unimproved roads. They will show as county roads on the maps, but are no more than trails in some cases. High ground clearance, running through both sand and swamp.....make sure your vehicle is up to the place you want to go. You will have very spotty cell service away from populated areas. It sounds like a warning, it is not. Just be careful in the U.P. when exploring, you have to be fairly self reliant for problems that may occur. Enjoy the beauty, have a safe trip.

Bears are very active this time of the year in the UP be very careful if you are going out alone. We all often walk with our heads down looking along the beach for agates. In 1979 I came way too close to a bear just out of Two Harbors Minnesota looking for agates right along the shore.
