Dang man, sounds like quite the adventure! I had thought the flashlight might help you find a rock or a place to pee in the dark not fight off a frickin Badger! Nice work and I know all too well the sound you made as the growling beast got closer to you in the pitch black darkness, I've made that sound myself... maybe not for as good of a reason either:) I see you got a new phone and I don't think I saw a pic of that mythical piece of wood you brought back with some blood and a bit of your soul for payment.lol You should get one of those GPS tag trackers www.rei.com/product/869419/spot-trace?sku=8694190001&store=48&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_8694190001%7C92700057791438938%7CNB%7C71700000074091798&gclid=CjwKCAjw7fuJBhBdEiwA2lLMYVADLkwHVQW-pg7CfRg7Z9BjHliVa_xsXwqmV1OWerZY5lcq_9ULCRoCweMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds the next time you go out. Then Brenda could track you and see exactly where you're at whenever she wants. Then say the next time you're sending a repeated text of "I'm on fire finding these Fairburn's" and Brenda only gets the I'm on fire part, she can drive out and smack you up side the head in person. If you can wait (I know you can't) till next spring I will fly out and join you on one of the harebrained adventures. Sarah said Brenda is a saint as well. Shoot, I already read her the stories of the first and second Cheyanne adventures... maybe she will forget by next year. I am happy to hear you're a trooper and made it through fairly unscathed!! Thank you my friend! As much as I hate anything in this world "tracking" me...that might not be a bad idea! LOL Ummm...my luck, she'd be looking down at the GPS thingy on her phone just as she's getting to me and run me over! LOL I will be ready, willing, and able for another adventure when you come out in the Spring! Tell Sarah, there's nothing to worry about...I still fall back on the fact that I haven't had a "mis"adventure while anyone else was in my company! LOL - I haven't found anyone willing to abandon reason so readily as myself! LOL Of course, if you want to become the second member of the Mad Badger Club, I can send you a membership card and secret decoder ring sometime later this week! LOL Dude, I'll tell ya, you couldn't have started with a better story. His voice just adds to it. His books cover a w I d e variety of topics. There's one story we read aloud every Christmas Eve (I can't make this up). Holidays on Ice and MTP One Day are literary gold. Don't choke . Another writer that has given me as many LOL moments as DS is Jenny Lawson in Let's Pretend this Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir. You can "unread" some of the funny, hilarious hijinx that she unveils in a book that I wish I could read again for the FIRST time. I pick up used copies at the thrift store of both and give them away... except I've never found a used Jenny Lawson. You're laughing at that statement aren't you? Of course I'm laughing at that last statement...If my mind's not on rocks, it's in the gutter! LOL

LOL Haha, I am from the Badger state after all. Maybe I'll bring a couple Wisconsin badgers with me to fight off your South Dakota Badgers... does it work like that? Send the card and decoder ring and I will get some shirts made up.

A Short story
Once upon a time There was this guy From South Dakota
He wanted to float down the river like Burt Reynolds
But then he got caught in a leaky Rubber Dinghy
The Badgers and Coyotes laughed so hard They all fell into the Water

Holy cow, Jason… that’s a lot of weight to be dragging down sand beds all day/night!!
Some beautiful pieces for sure! Those are some pretty Prairie Agates you found.
It looks really big from here… 😂
Too bad you don’t have a saw blade big enough to slab that beast… you don’t do you?😜

Nice haul! Is the black one in pic 4 (I think) the "obsidian" or pet wood like the others? It's my fav. Looks charred. Of course, the prairie agates are beautiful!

The one in the 4th pic is a different piece than that Obsidian-esque piece. The one you're talking about definitely appears to be pet wood...and it does look charred!

That looks like a great haul and I, for one, think it was well worth your midnight mad badger standoff (now that we know you survived!). Something tells me your wife may disagree. Or at least until your storytelling skills land you on your own reality show that she can watch on TV instead of searching for you in the dead of night.

Or at least until your storytelling skills land you on your own reality show that she can watch on TV instead of searching for you in the dead of night. Thanks Brian! It was a LOT of hauling for what is going to amount to nothing more than yard ornaments! LOL - I've had such crappy luck trying to slab or cab any of the petrified wood I've found out here. There always seems to be so many fractures and pitting is horrible. I have had a couple turn out, but maybe I'm just really jaded when it comes to working this stuff... There were some really cool Prairie Agates, but I don't think I'll try to make cabs out of any of them. Some should be able to be tumbled I think. My wife had called her sister that night...so I had to talk to her on Saturday and "apologize" for involving her. At that point, she said if I got the "itch" to do this again, I just needed to contact "Naked and Afraid" and just go do a survival stint for them...since there's another person out there...and 12 camera operators! LOL

Here's a pic my wife just sent me. We took a pic (with her phone) the morning we went back to get the raft. I missed the "beach" in the pitch black and stopped right under the bridge. I had to try and pull the raft back upstream walking on those boulders...that's when I ended up taking the swim! LOL

Alright! You found the wood that looks like wood. Some of those pieces definitely look like cutters. And the prairie agates are quite nice.
