Our club has one in the shop. The shop foreman says it works ok, but he said the belt doesn't run fast enough for his taste. I think he was pretty disappointed with the purchase.

They are belt drive, so it may be possible to change pulleys to speed it up a touch. Looks like they run the rollers at 1725 rpm, which is going to be about 1/3 of the surface speed of a 8 inch expando drum. I have one, I think I'll pull it out of storage and put in my shop.

I have a long verticle Covington I haven't used yet, think I might bring it into my shop and figure out the water supply. Water is a consideration if attempting to convert a wood belt sander, as well as the belt size of the sander. 3"x41 1/2" belts or 3"x25 7/32" are the 2 common sizes for belts on wet grinders.

I'll be interested in learning what your experience is here.

I wound up doing nothing... instead I just put my rocks away and am taking a break. Feels weird!
