This load was put in after we pulled the rocks for the WWRT Contest out of the UV-10. For the last 2 1/2 years we have tumbled mostly homogeneous loads and while it is cool to get 8-10lbs. of finished rock all the same type, we both agreed we needed a change. So hodgepodge it is. A couple of the whole group: ...and after mixing them up: Some larger worry/pocket/palm stones. The one in the middle is 3 1/2" tall, maybe a little big but that's okay as I want that one. The miscellaneous group- saw cutoffs, smaller pieces of the palm stones, etc. Some low grade Ocean Jasper. Good thing I only have 20lbs. of it . Laguna Lace. The plan was to slab as much as possible and tumble the scraps. That was until it crumbled time and again in the saw (sound familiar jasoninsd?). Decided to make the best of a bad situation and tumble some. Some Botswana Agates that got put in the wrong bucket as we are prepping a whole load of these, whoops! Some pieces of Blue Lace Agate that were left over from a load from a couple of years ago. With what this stuff is going to go for I'm hanging onto it for my retirement fund. The Hematite group- Mary Ellen Jasper, Tiger Iron and a red/yellow specked with Hematite stone that I wish I had many pounds of. Owyhee Jasper Mexican Moss Agate Finally some pendants. Vibe pendants can sometimes wear unevenly messing up even the best prep. Before selling we inspect them and any that developed flaws will become magnets or will be freebies at the next show A.J. does. Thanks for looking!

That was a fun post to peruse! I've looked at all the pics several times. I really like the effects of the mixed "group pic". It's like having a bowl of mixed jelly beans versus only the red ones. It's definite "eye candy"! It's such a love/hate with any of the Mexican Lace Agates! LOL I love those Botswana Agates! It doesn't look like there's a single fracture anywhere on those. Gorgeous! That Owyhee Jasper looks so smooth and stunning! And I'm REALLY beginning to like moss agate a lot more often lately...and those Mexican Moss are top-notch!

Nice looking load, there. Lovin’ the Owyhee and blue lace. True, the OJ isn’t the primo stuff, but I do kind of like it. The pinpoint, white orbs remind me of what you see in some PJs.
Important question: was the hodgepodge strained through a Leslie?

I am partial to the Hematite group. I like the red/yellow speckled ones too.

That’s a great looking mix. The OJ isn’t beautiful in the traditional way, but at least it still has a lot of interesting spots going on. I like that orange/yellow/hematite as well. Actually that whole group with the tiger iron looks great!

Really nice stuff. Love the shine!! Glad to see you hanging back around these parts again, knave! Very satisfying to look at that hodgepodge batch of rocks all sitting in the pile, Rockindad! I keep thinking I should get the UV10 due to the news from The Rock Shed that the UV18 might be out of production permanently. How do you like the UV10 Rockindad? Whats the largest rock that will still spin in the UV10? I have a Raytech tv5 and it's not large enough for my needs anymore.

For relatively round rocks you are looking at baseball size +/- depending on overall shape. If they are a little narrower but a bit more elongated then even bigger/ longer. We are actually thinking about stepping up to the UV-18 as we are trending towards doing larger stones. Availability is an issue at the moment. I did call Tru Square (manufacturer of Thumler’s Tumblers) and I was told that the main issue they are having is getting reliable motors, they are not alone in this. They also confirmed that they have every intention of keeping the whole UV line in production, and are shipping some out this week (this gentleman wasn’t sure to which vendor). Because you seem like a nice guy I will tell you that Rocktumbler.com has them in stock now. They are usually a bit higher in price than others but their customer service has always been top notch any time I have dealt with them- great communication throughout the whole process.

The moss is from The Rock Shed, only thing wrong is that it is just smaller tumbling material, nothing to even get a slabette out of. The Bots were generally in great shape though the one in the upper right corner has some fractures, nature of the beast.

Important question: was the hodgepodge strained through a Leslie? I got the reference, rock on! That’s kind of where I’m at with this OJ- “kind of like it”. It’s hard not to have certain expectations when you hear that name though. I am partial to the Hematite group. I like the red/yellow speckled ones too. Me too Beth. I think Hematite gets a bad rap sometimes, though not from me. Can’t deny the messiness though. That’s a great looking mix. The OJ isn’t beautiful in the traditional way, but at least it still has a lot of interesting spots going on. I like that orange/yellow/hematite as well. Actually that whole group with the tiger iron looks great! Tiger Iron was one of the rocks that really got me hooked early on as the first exceptional slab we ever got was a beautiful piece about six inches square. It had extra fat layers of 1/4” to 3/8”. Still on the lookout for some like that.

I hear ya on the expectations (aka premeditated resentments) on certain material, where we've seen the best of the best, and worked stuff that didn't quite rise to that level.

Could be keeping the good stuff for themselves, couldn’t blame them. They were honest in their advertising about the size of the pieces so no complaints. I want to get there in person someday and pick through their stock. For what I’ve spent there I think Shawn should fly me out and let me fill up a crate. Going to check the mailbox for the ticket now.

I had heard the same from TheRockShed as well about the motor issue. Thanks for the info on the UV10. Lol, aww shucks, thanks for thinking I'm a nice guy. I keep having a little bit of a difficult time pulling the trigger on it when it is over $150 more expensive at Rocktumbler than at the Shed. That difficulty keeps wearing away as my pile of back logged rocks keeps growing and the Rock Sheds stock sits at zero. My little Raytech can't keep up with a 12lb barrel and a couple 3 punders rolling coarse all the time. Thanks again for the help! Maybe I'll have to treat myself to something nice this weekend. Sorry to sidetrack the thread!

Sorry to sidetrack the thread! Sidetrack away Stew, I do it to my own threads. Wow, didn't compare the prices yet so didn't realize there was that much of a difference. I talked to a young lady at The Rock Shed last week, according to her they did not have much hope for getting any of the UV's "this year". I can only say that it does no good to have the lowest price if you do not have any to sell. If I had strictly a capacity issue I wouldn't hesitate to go with another less expensive UV-10, it's just that I want to do larger stones than I can jam into mine.

I am of the same mind as you on the larger vibe for larger rocks. I already know I wouldn't be happy for long with the UV10 knowing there is a bigger one out there that I could put a larger rock into. I already run too big of rocks in the Raytech. I'll go back to the website and stare at it for a while...lol
