Hello: My name is Blue and currently I live in Spain. I am a total beginner as far as identifying rocks (or subsequent sanding, shaping polishing etc)---but have always had an interest in stones-- and have a very small collection of interesting shaped rocks with sentimental value (story behind the rock). I recently discovered that there are some interesting beach stones (pebbles) at the beach I frequent --I have to actually get in the water to access them because our beach is rather sandy and the low tides versus high tide is not that different. That said-- I am still enjoying looking for special rocks that somehow speak to me. I have never joined a forum--this is a first-- since I know little to nothing about rocks at this point in time-- in the spirit of making a meaningful contribution I will share my Heart Stone Poem: dedicated in memory to my dad.
Next to My Heart, Close, A special Rock, I hold.
Precious Gift, My Father gave, Reminder, His Special Day, God took Him Home.
Heart Stone, An Angel did place, Upon My Path, That Day.
Encrypted message, Shall remain, Forever, Deep, Within my Heart, Till I see my Father, Again.
-------- Respectfully, Blue

Welcome to the forum Blue! This is my first ever forum as well. To get yourself started, find a rotary tumbler. Those are the cheapest and easiest way to find out if you are in to polishing rocks. A word of warning about this hobby, once you find you enjoy it, you are fully sucked in. Don't ask how I know... 😂

All: Thank you for your warm welcome 😊. I believe in synchronicity -- and am happy the message in my Heart Stone poem was well received. Now, if I can just figure out how to upload photos in a secure way.. thinking it isn't "rock"-et science...Have great rest of day... winding down here in Spain....beautiful full moon over water tonight...and heading your way. R/ Blue You can use any photo hosting site to upload photos or use Cloudinary (free). The tutorial to set up an account is here. It takes a little time to set it up, but it works a treat.

Good Morning All: I encountered some kind of technical difficulty creating account in Cloudinary and am waiting their response-- that said--Until I have resolved that issue I am unable to begin posting photos of rock specimens, full moons or trees (my favorites). I realize that I will have to initiate a new thread somewhere else as I am venturing across and beyond the "introduction threshold". My thoughts are to post a Spain Beach Chronicles thread focused on things of interest surrounding the rocks, stones, pebbles I might encounter over here. Any thoughts as to which folder would be most appropriate?
To answer the "which coast of Spain I am at"--it is the Mediterranean coast--south of Barcelona along "La Costa Dorada" (Golden Coast). Aptley named after the golden colored sand--which by the way is very coarse and sparkly. I am going to provide one more bit of information--only because I am asked this often by both Spanish and Americans--whom I run into. The Spanish are surprised by my fluent Spanish albeit an accent-- and on many occasions, my peers in my former US military life would often ask where I hailed from--again from my way of speaking or perhaps my mannerisms (cultural). My mother was Spanish and my father American. I was born here in Spain and have traveled extensively thanks to my father's occupation and my own--knowing always that ultimately my "homes" would be in both Spain and USA-- because that is where I have roots. Georgia specifically--😊-/talk about rocks-- close to where my father grew up in Georgia is a place called Ruby Falls-- it is not quite in Georgia but close enough to throw a rock trom there.
I look forward to learning from the experts, and my fellow beginner rock initiates as well as from everybody inbetween. Be it learning work arounds, tricks learned over the years from experience or living vicariously through someone else since at my current location I unfortunately do not have access to a workshop and I am pretty sure that my neighbors--who are here to enjoy a peaceful vacation would probably throw big bolders at me if I disturbed the peace. As soon as I get cloudinary resolved I will post a sampling of rocks/pebbles I find in my part of the world. Till then: Hasta mañana si Dios quiere. Respectfully Blue

Well, from someone who lives in a landlocked existence, I for one look forward to the Spanish Beach Chronicles! Thank you for your service. My military career started in Georgia, but most of the rest of the time was spent in North Carolina...never overseas.

Thanks Hummingbird: The issue appears to be at Cloudinary end at this moment... I log in and see --well "nothing". They are working the issue. Once that is resolved I will tackle linking it to RTH-- the tips and tutorials have been helpful. Can't wait to post my first rock specimen photos😊. Respectfully Blue
