Hi all, I have enjoyed reading through various threads on this forum for a few weeks now, and figured it was time for me to finally make an account! I love reading about people's experiences and insights regarding rock tumbling, a pandemic hobby I absolutely love. My partner and I moved to New England a few months ago, and try to go rockhounding at least once a week. We've been lucky enough to take a few weekend day trips and have collected specimens in Maine a few times, New Hampshire, and various parts of Massachusetts. I'd love all/any advice regarding collection spots in the New England area, if anyone has suggestions or favorite locations that they would be willing to share. Throughout this rock collecting and tumbling adventure, we've both been learning a lot! However, I am excited to learn even more by interacting with and reading the threads in this vibrant community. If there's one thing that has become abundantly clear in the last few months, it's that there is just SO much to learn about minerals, geology and the art of collecting and showcasing nature's art vis-a-vie rocks. Seriously -- I've been researching and learning about rocks, minerals, and geology pretty voraciously for roughly 9 months, and I still get overwhelmed sometimes by how much I DON'T know. This is a hobby and subject area that seems to involve a lot of hands on learning, and learning from veterans who are willing to share their knowledge and experience. Hopefully, by joining this forum, I will be able to connect with plenty of veterans and long-time lovers of rock collecting and tumbling!

Welcome from Virginia! I grew up in New England, but all I know is the granite. Which can actually be quite pretty.
You have come to the right place to learn. This is a very giving group of pros (and novices). As you will notice, every aspect of lapidary is covered here.

Hi MaryDiva: Welcome from the eastern shores of Spain. I just joined and likely know less than you but am happy to share insights from what I am discovering--agree with you that despite my many hours of research I still have so much to learn. My brother lives in Vermont-- beautiful up east. Have nice day. Respectfully, Blue

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I'm just resigned to the fact that the more I learn, the more I realize there IS to know...so I've opted to try and forget as much as I can hoping that "reverse psychology" will take over and it will make me feel like I know more than I do! LOL It's an amazing hobby...and you are in the right place to share and acquire SO much information about any and all aspects of this endeavor.
