I'll soon be spending several days rockhounding roughly in the region bounded by Albuquerque, Carrizo, Ft. Sumner, Santa Rosa. Mostly am searching for high quality tumbling material--cherts, jaspers, etc. If anyone here is in that area and would like to get acquainted while I'm there, send me a private message. Also, if anyone here knows if the Pecos River in that part of state is known for good material, please mention. The research I've done would suggest probably not, although it does have a lot of quartzite and some crystal quartz. Bob, about 28 years ago my Father-in-law and I took an afternoon collecting trip south of Albuquerque and to the west of I-25. It's one of the spots on the map I have linked. I believe it was the spot west out of Los Lunas. Collecting was ok, lots of rock showing, found some common agate and even a couple of Obsidian nodules. We only spent a couple hours as we only had a short break from the rest of the family. This map may help, although I suspect that some of the sites are not what they are written up as. Good luck and take care out there in the heat and dry climate. Henry rockhoundresource.com/new-mexico-rockhounding-location-guide-map/
