Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I can't help on the ID, but I'll tag stephan or @jadedvision as they might have some ideas on the ID... (Beautiful piece...whatever it is!)

I'm moving this to the rock ID section.
Maybe it is Olympic Poppy.

Thank you, I was looking for it there, I’m not sure where I posted this. 😬😬 it wasn’t easy on an iPhone until I switched to desktop mode!

I’ve never really payed attention to rocks until the last couple months. It’s a shame really lol I used to live in Montana and probably missed out on a lot!

LOL I went to college in Billings...back when Dryhead Agates could be mined...and had no interest in rocks back then! (Oh...the days of misspent youth! LOL)

Could you slice an end off, so we could see the inside?

I see some areas in the top picture that look possibly orby. They are, however, as @jadedvision said, different than MH.
When you say “north of San Francisco”, that covers quite a bit of real estate. It would be helpful if you could narrow it down. I assume you mean in California still, so not Olympic. Plus the colors aren’t really right.
I don’t know if you plan to cut or polish, but that can make it clearer. Zooming in on what would be the top of the rock in the first picture, it might help verify whether some of the areas that look like orbs really are. I’m looking at both the yellow and the green areas with red centers.

I’ve seen a couple poppy jasper finds that might be mistaken for Morgan hill, but the patterns are very unique. I don’t see any orbs/patterns in that piece that suggest Morgan hill type patterns. The colors are similar but that’s not what makes Morgan hill so unique, it’s all about the orbs. Keep looking and I can almost guarantee you will find some poppy jasper north of the bay along the ocean, or in any gravel bars accessible along any creek/river in the area. Whether or not it will resemble Morgan hill or any of the many others found in the state is anybody’s guess, I look forward to seeing what else you come up with so please share more photos. Makes sense but could it be that the orbs are difficult to see because it’s not cut? I’ve not seen any Morgan Hill Poppy that hasn’t been cut or polished. I’ve been googling and I’ve also searched the forums. These look like orbs but then it could be my eye finding them, however, I saw the spots before I even posted and Morgan Hill Poppy was suggested. Lol my start of the search/research started with Ocean Jasper, which it isn’t since not Madagascar, but I’m very curious now lol

Lol my start of the search/research started with Ocean Jasper, which it isn’t since not Madagascar, but I’m very curious now lol Poppy jasper can be hard to spot when worn down and abraded from rivers/oceans, and it’s common to find jasper where only one small part of the rock has orbs. I don’t have any self collected Morgan hill, but it’s known for large orbs so I’d think it would be pretty easy to spot relative to others. I’d be curious to see that surface sanded down or cut, then you’d know for certain. And if it is poppy you will have that type to keep an eye out for while collecting. Thank you very much. You’re probably right. I guess I’ll settle for knowing it’s “Jasper” right now. I don’t really want to cut it even though I’m very curious about the inside of it. Plus I don’t have the capabilities of cutting it lol I live in Nevada currently, but travel to California frequently. I think I found a new hobby of looking for cool rocks and I’ll definitely keep my eyes open in the tide pools etc….and to think I almost threw this into the ocean because at first glance I thought maybe someone painted it. 😬😆

The area where you found your rock has a lot of colorful jasper in the area and in fact there is a prolific jasper beach just north of there called Wrights Beach where jasper pebbles of all kinds can be found. That being said, your piece is definitely a piece of Franciscan formation California jasper that occur in a wide area (shown in blue in the image below) and it could be a poppy jasper which cutting would reveal. To me it looks more like another common poppy jasper that occurs on the same formation and is known as Snow Mountain poppy jasper. We find a lot of the same colors like yours especially in the Stony Creek area from Stonyford to Black Butte Reservoir. Just the Stony Creek, Burris Creek, Black Butte area alone has three very distinctly different types of poppy jaspers. I hope this helps. Edited to add: Morgan Hill is the red target, Stony Creek blue, Bodega Bay is somewhere around the blue arrow. The red arrow is a tiny strip of Franciscan formation in the area of Pescadero beach where I have found bits of a beautiful red poppy jasper that strongly resembles the material collected around Morgan Hill.

Thank you. Very interesting information. I looked up the Snow Mountain Poppy and those have tons of yellow in them. I found a few with more red, but it does make me more curious of what is on the inside of this Jasper. I’ve gone through Morgan Hill many times going up to Mariposa from San Jose. I’ve also visited Bodega/Jenner the HWY 1 area frequently this past summer. I think I’ll definitely be looking through the rocks/tide pools more carefully to see what else I can find, besides all sorts of cool sea creatures lol Thank you everyone that has responded, I greatly appreciate it. If I decide to have the Jasper cut I’ll be back to ask questions as to where I would go or who I would ask to help have that done without damaging it too much. Thank you again for everyone’s time.

Found the photos, finally. A couple years ago someone offered old, rough Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper here in exchange for postage. Here are some photos of what I received. There was a lot of color variety.
