Sure, they tell you about all the great things it can do but they conveniently forget to mention the explosive diarrhea... And you'll never burn another English muffin . . . oldschoolrocker That is from Brazil and has been sold as blue quartz. From what I have seen it is a blue aventurine (aka quartzite). Not a uniform quartzite like most green but still quite pretty. Check hardness should be about 6.5-7. but should grind easy like quartzite not as easy as sodalite

Ya I had thought it had the same look as green adventurine but never seen stripes before. I will have to check hardness again but I believe you are right. I was basing hardness on how easily it was to cut and grind compared to agate or whatnot. Haven't worked much quartzite nor aventurine before. But this stuff is a joy to grind!

That sure looks a lot like this. It was harvested from the base of what is now Mount Rushmore.

If that's a "hundred-year-old rock", apologies.

If that's a "hundred-year-old rock", apologies. It has been passed around for many years. This is a transcript pf a very tattered note I received with the stone. It was passed on to me by a good friend. She received it from a Lakota Medicine Man in the 1970's. I do not know who he receeived it from. Note: Many years ago, a Medicine Man journeyed to ask the Six Grandfathers for guidance and special medicine to protect his tribe. He was granted permission to remove two pieces of stone from what is now Mount Rushmore. The Grandfathers told him that whoever had these stones would receive protection and guidance from them. The caretakers of the stones had to nurture the stones, as they were the medium through which the Grandfathers strength and guidance would be transmitted. A person is only to keep a stone for as long as they need the protection and guidance from the Grandfathers. They are then to pass it on to someone else along with this story. The recipient has to be part Native American, or respect and follow the beliefs of Native Culture. They must be ready to accept and understand the great Medicine held within this stone and the Grandfathers.

Check the hardness on a piece of glass see if it will scratch. It sure looks like adventurine.
