I found a poly d14 on Facebook this morning and saw that the motor looked old. Who thinks this can be fixed? It likely is from the 60s or 70s flic.kr/p/2mybzSH

What is wrong with it besides being old? I would just rewire with a three wire, add a ground. I would personally buy every poly arbor i found for the price you mentioned, especially if it has the splash shields.

Do you know how to tell how the bearings are?

Most likely that motor has sleeve bearings [bushings], nothing at all wrong with that. Most of those older motors have an oil hole above the bearing give 'em about 20 drops of oil every year and it will run for years. Lowes has 3in1 brand 20wt. electric motor oil in stock here in a 3oz. container. As far as bearing condition, if the motor runs and doesn't get real hot real quick, run it and don't worry about it.

Okay, thanks! I will see if I can get it this weekend. I'm already visiting family up there so hopefully I will have it in my garage begging to be worked on till this coming Saturday.

Good luck Perkins, may the force (of good rock karma) be with you! Thank you! I picked it up yesterday and found out it ran! Tonight I brought it to my club and they readjusted the motor and are going to fix it up for me. The bearings are good and the silicon carbide 220 drum is good. I got an 8x3 drum instead of the 6x2.5 it came with from them. I think it's gonna be worked on for like a week. I guess the rock Karma was with me... 😁
