I brought back a lot of shell fossils from Moolack Beach and Beverly Beach in Oregon; but I also found some weird mystery fossils I have no clue what they are. Any help is much appreciated! Fossil #1 I like to call the Fossilized Cigarette. I suppose I could carve this one out and see what else I can find. There are no clues at all on the rest of the rock. Fossil #2 is an oblong concretion that was about 8 inches long that I broke open. Inside is just a tube of sparkly silica material. I'm not sure if this is even identifiable as anything, but it is interesting! Fossil #3 is from a gravel bar where Big Creek runs into the ocean. It kind of looks bone-like. These are also from Big Creek, and I'm not sure if they are fossils or not

That first one is gnarly, what an awesome find! I'm agree with jasoninsd , its clearly from the first Marlboro man. From what I've learned that last photo is called Porphyry, I find it sometime here in Michigan as well. www.sandatlas.org/porphyry/

Oh, very interesting, Son Of Beach - I have heard people throw that word around, but I wasn't sure what it meant. Thanks for the info! And the general consensus is still.....fossilized cigarette! Yes, we are united in that.

#2 is an ugly chert nodule that forms in the Sediments With a bit of shell to form a Cyst in the mud Over time, Millions of years, Silica molecules Will surround it and precipitate into a Fossil

It is very different from our chert nodules in Missouri! I collected several from a nearby gravel road yesterday - they are striped with black, grey, yellow, and purple. Fun to tumble.

ericabelle The last image is a basalt with porphyry like Chinese writing rock. Image #1&2 could be a belemnite or a cephalopod of some type. Could be Crinoid stem though I did not see rings. Typically cephalopods would have simple suture lines around the back where a belemnite would not. Could also be a filled borrow.

The Dentalium from the Astoria Formation at Beverly Beach is a type of Scaphopod Years ago when I was hounding along the bluffs there, I found a small patch where there were dozens of them in the mudstone. Unfortunately they weren't very well preserved, so I didn't collect any. www.itano.net/fossils/astoria/scaph02s.htm

There is a photo that looks exactly like them in the link that Lumberlegs sent me - lists them as basalt plagioclase porphyrite. Seems like a 6-7 hardness so may be.

That would be awesome to see a lot of them, too bad they weren't well preserved. When I was there, I definitely found lots of crumbly fossils - such a shame!

I'm not very knowledgeable about fossils, but is it possible that it could be a belamnite?

Here is an example of an Anadara bivalve that turned to agate in a chert nodule. That is the type of fossil that you found in this example

IMO #3 looks porous but doesn't seem to have cell structure and the last one I agree - chinese writing rock.
