This box was generously sent to me by Mike Fossilman about three months ago and I've been seriously lagging on getting it posted for auction. Mike sent to this to support the forum so bid generously to do him proud Medium Large Flat Rate box to the high bidder, starting bid at $24 to cover the cost of shipping so basically no reserve. Mike has included various stuff as shown, there's some oolite and Owhyee jasper and thundereggs as well as some obsidian and Montana moss agate. I will top the repackaged box off with rocks, Fallon rhyolite and such, and it will arrive quite heavy. Lets end the auction on Sunday the 17th at 6pm to accommodate our east coast folks.

I forgot about this box when I bought 200 pounds of estate sale Owyhee area material off Ebay yesterday. Ooops. Add that to the 300 pounds of rocks that Tony ( catmandewe) sold me recently, and it's looking like my slab saws are going to be working overtime. I'm trying to slab up a lot of my big rough before it starts snowing. I've got at least another month.

If I ever brought home 500+ pounds of rocks, my wife would throw me - and the rocks - out on the lawn! (Not quite there yet in the hobby. Maybe in couple of years, though!)

If I ever brought home 500+ pounds of rocks, my wife would throw me - and the rocks - out on the lawn! (Not quite there yet in the hobby. Maybe in couple of years, though!)Well you don't "bring them home," first of all. You hide them. In a barn, garage, or basement. Outside, even. And like a shameful rock addict, you only bring them out when she's not around. If she sees them, you claim you found most of them in the field behind your house. Or some guy out west gave you a bunch of rocks because he felt bad that you had so few. All of the above is purely hypothetical. Finally, 500+ pounds of rocks sounds like more than it is. Most of that is large cutting rough, with many pieces in the 10-15+ pound range. A lot of those big rocks end up not being very exciting, so I take a few slabs off and toss them aside. A few end up being amazing, and I slab the whole rock. Even then, a lot of rock is lost between end cuts and what the saw blade turns into slurry. So out of 500 pounds, I might get 30-40 pounds of really kick-ass slabs, another 50 pounds of good slabs, 50 pounds of tumbling material, and the rest gets tossed in the rock garden or on a shelf. And if all else fails, tell your wife that your mail carrier is the only one with the right to complain, for having to carry all those boxes of rocks to your porch. (My mail carrier hates me.)

Wife has no idea what they mean so she never looks in them, she just knows they are really heavy..LOL. I am always home from work before her so I always get the mail also .
