Sorry for you Tela. It's good that he will no longer be in pain, but the loss of our closest companions is tough. It's funny. I never wanted him. DH basically let him move in with us. He was secretly feeding him salmon and tuna to lure him in. Once in, Cat decided to stay. I became his favorite, too. He was a gentleman.

(Hugs) Tough decisions. I find it doesn't matter what I decide...I always second guess myself. Did I wait too long? Did I make a decision too soon... gut wrenching. You did 100% right, know that. Cat was lucky to have you!

I'm sorry for your loss. I still miss my boys (cats) George and Junior who have been gone a few years now, still don't want to get another pet yet, not ready. Heck I still miss my 200lb. St. Bernard Max that passed away when I was 17. They are just as big a part of the family as any human.

I’m sorry to hear this. For many pets are a great source of companionship so I’m sure this was very difficult. My condolences.

rockjunquieI am so sorry. You made the compassionate decision. I have always been such an emotional mess when my cats have died, I swear I will never get another one. Then they show up at my door, I give them a hot dog or some lunch meat, and next thing I know... You should have the satisfaction of knowing that you gave him security and companionship. Isn't that what we all really want, humans and cats alike? Although you and your husband are no doubt in pain, I hope you feel some comfort and relief knowing that your kitty is no longer suffering.

Tough times. I volunteered for a not for profit, no kill animal shelter for many years. Can't remember the number of times I held a cat, dog, etc., in my arms for their final hours. Some had been brought to us the same day, by people who could not afford a Vet and did not want to "kill" their family member themselves. We could not always find a Vet willing to come immediately. We always held the pet close and made them feel loved. TAlked to them. Tried to make their trip over the Rainbow Bridge seem appealing.
I still miss my elderly cats who passed in 2019 and 2021. Someday, the right kitties will come along, but for now, I have no inside companions.

Bless you for being there for those lonely kitties. It's sad, but it meant a lot to them.
We won't be getting another any time soon. We still have Sid, but she is a radically different personality than Cat. She's mellowing out, though.
