I agree with larsonite. Actually, since the claim has been bought up, it is called Freedom Jasper. Just to muddy the waters a bit more.

Definitely from the Freedom jasper claim, Tempted to call it Caldera Jasper, which is the stuff with more reds, yellows and blues. So many names. Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, that has been one of my favorites ever since I started cutting things other than opal.
I'll never buy a piece of it that's called "freedom" anything. People trading on names like "freedom" or "patriot" annoy me.

Yeah, I hear you Vince, but I think you might be reading it differently than intended. John is a personal friend, and his use of the word freedom is not a political statement in any way. When I met him he came in as a financial partner to a close friend, buying an estate that I was helping with. He was a welder working in a fabrication shop, a man with a fantastic work ethic working 60 plus hours a week building a family. His children are well mannered and a joy to be around. He discovered a love for the rocks and for being a businessman, and a couple short years later was making a deal to buy possibly the largest single holding of mining claims in the west. Dale had already been working on changing the names because Green and Larsen had their names attached to materials they had stolen from the property owner, and he originally coined the Ellipso and Caldera names. When John says freedom, he is saying his personal freedom from the 9-5 world. It was his first time naming a material and while maybe a bit cheesey to the unaquainted onlooker, it's personal for him. He is still learning the trade, and Dale is still managing a lot of it for awhile longer, but I truly expect him to emerge as the most ethical, and generally likeable dealer.

Thanks for sharing that. The world needs a few good ethical dealers.

Thanks for the personal insight, Lee. I'm happy to know he has been fortunate enough to have all his hard work pay off in such an enjoyable way.
Robin and I have both bought loads of stuff from Dale, and got to meet him in Quartzsite once. Good to know the business practices we were used to with Dale will be perpetuated by another good ethical supplier.
I also know how tough learning the marketing side of what we do can be. Maybe my "crabby" comments might help him in some small way. The toughest part of selling to the "general public" is trying to anticipate how things will be perceived.
Second hardest thing is accepting that a percentage of them will not like whatever you do, right?
