I obviously won't benefit in any way from this post - so here it is.
The only reason I found it is that I was doing price comparisons on a Frantom 24" a friend of ours will be selling.

That is very nice, and the clear hood in such good shape, but $2900? I have always gone with the $100.00 per inch blade diameter price cap for a good condition used cabinet style saw. I suppose Cigarbox would have a similar price on it though. Are you thinking of buying the FranTom? I now wish I would have brought my 24, at least a little bit. sphereguy Matt, the curator of the FranTom museum and keeper of the family history, is always looking for another, and with the rare exception they all cut rocks regularly.

Yeah Rockoonz, $100 per inch was the baseline for years. Now, though, new saws of lesser quality sell for more than that. That sucks.
I'd like to have the Frantom 24", but it wouldn't get enough use here to make it worthwhile for us.

That is a nicely preserved saw featuring all the original gaurds and plastic hood ... still not sure it increases the value quite that much.

Quite true Tommy - after all, it isn't a classic car or some other such thing.
Still, if I really needed an 18" saw and had to choose between a "new" one and this one it would be an easy choice.

I also find it interesting because I have that same saw and I'm teetering on the decision to sell it or not because I've barely used it since moving it to Napa and it's taking up a lot of space in my garage. Not that I really need the money ... but ... I like money and I can't imagine the value of these saws going a whole lot higher than they are right now.

So 500 for a 12” wasn’t bad 😝

Hey bargains are bargains, and we all know someone who got one. Should we hold up Rockoonz as an example? However when you want a truly quality machine with the design and features you want (especially of vintage stock), you sometimes have to decide whether you will let 1. time; 2. miles driven; or 3. $$ separate you from achieving your desire. A machine is worth what the first person with an acceptable amount of cash offers within the sellers tolerance of time. As a person with 3 slab saws, I paused with the $2900 tag, but if I was hot to get a big saw and had no other options, I'd sure try to justify that amount or keep looking. The price under discussion is within the range that Cigarbox would charge (mas o menos), and yes they offer a thorough rebuild that does not exist in most off the classified list saws. Every year a few more of these classic saws die or disappear and that just might contribute to their value until the next generation takes over and we are all in the nursing homes sans equipment.

You make some good points Tom - and this might have already been implied somewhere in the thread but geography also plays a major part in it. Here in CA we see big saws for sale all of the time so that is something I have to consider when (if) pricing mine for sale - ie: being realistic enough to draw a buyer from a distance, 4 hours? 7 hours? What I do have going for me if I make the decision to sell it is I'm not in ANY kind of hurry and not really committed to selling it in the first place. I mean what the heck am I going to do with all this rough if I sell my saw? lol. Anyway, I have the ability to price it, and not care if it either sells or it doesn't. The other advantage(disadvantage?) is it's still loaded with oil and fairly clean since the move to Napa, and it's running and cutting as well as it has since I've had it. I could offer to let someone come cut a rock on it as part of their buying decision.

Did they jack the price up, cause I see three grand, not $2900?

Did they jack the price up, cause I see three grand, not $2900? That was me, being my grandmother. True story, something in the store was $3.99 she would say it's only $3.00. She would also take $20 to Bingo, and come back with $10 saying "I won $10!"

New development.
Just found out today that there's a pristine Frantom 24" that could be had for the same $3000. 110/220 motor.
Yeah, Lee, we know they can be had for less... . Glad to hear yours runs okay, even if it won't stop now.
Local pickup only - in the Prescott, AZ area.

If I hadn't sold it to a friend I probably would have asked that for mine, and mine was functionally perfect but not cosmetically pristine, that means a lot to some. Based on asking prices down here in the valley they are totally in line.

Tommy I wonder how it sat at $125 for long enough to discount.

Tommy I wonder how it sat at $125 for long enough to discount. Yeah I don't know exactly what went on with that. It all happened so fast - when I first contacted her it still said $125 and had only been posted a day or two but she responded right away that someone was coming to get it. I got the sense that I was dealing with an older person so I think she might have been offered $75 and she went in and changed the listing to reflect that?

OH, and the other thing was my son actually sent me the link to it because he found it listed as an antique table saw. When the price dropped is the same time the description was corrected.

Hey it had rust on it. And the window on the hood was dirty. Too high!

Yeah - the lid's off the hinges, too. Total junk... .
That sucks 'cuz it's the exact same saw we have. Many individual parts from that one would have been worth $125 each to me.
