Hi Everyone. I have been a keen rock and gem collector for many years enjoying the wonders and magic they bring. I am a born and bred Aussie, spending my last ten years in Queensland. My husband and I live on the road, travelling and working our way around Australia in our bus. I bought myself a small barrel rotary rock tumbler size #3 about 1 year ago and I absolutely love it and feel quite addicted. Have tumbled many quartz and jasper so far, mainly from Queensland north and outback and trying some azurite and malachite that I found up in Cloncurry QLD for my next tumble. Currently enjoying the amazing state of Tasmania and finding some hidden gems there also Thanks for having me ! Cheers AoTE

Hey AoTE! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota, USA! Whoa! I'd love to see some pictures of that tumbled Azurite and Malachite once it's done...if you're willing and able to post pictures! I have a small piece that I'm going to "sacrifice" to the cabbing gods. I think I'll be able to get two decent sized cabs out of it...if it's solid in the middle.

Hi Jasoninsd.
Thanks for the welcome. I will definitely post a few pics when I’m done. I’m just doing some homework as I’m worried how they will go, but if I’m gentle and only start with a light tumble…let’s see how much survives to the end!
it’s always worrying when you want to do something special with a fragile piece…good luck with the cabbing of your azurite or malachite, I hope they treat you well 😎

Welcome aote. If posting photos seems difficult at first, you are right. Getting set up is hard but it is a breeze after setup is done. Many can help.

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
You live in rock wonderland! The variety of rocks found in Australia is amazing and some of my favorites. Hubby and I both started on our lapidary addiction cutting opal.
Enjoy the board. Lots of great folks from everywhere hang out here and are happy to help with questions.

Welcome from Charles Town WV USA. (Think John Brown's pre-Civil War raid.)
I agree with the others. From what I've seen online and in a couple of books, the variety of Aussie rocks is incredible! Pictures would be appreciated.

Welcome to the RTH aote! Loads of friendly, knowledgable folks on here.
As my wonderful wife Robin said, we both love Aussie rocks. Queensland agates are a favorite, but none will knock Aussie opal off the top of the list.
It must be great to be able to travel about like you do. The first rough rocks I ever bought were tiny scraps of boulder opal from Quilpie. Hope to see some of your beautiful country someday.
Cheers!

The best tip I've seen is to print out the tutorial and follow it step by step (check off the steps if necessary). It takes a little while to get through it, but if you follow it exactly as Tommy wrote it, when you're done it will work. After that it only takes a couple seconds to post your pics.
