Check out my $20 haul from the Raleigh NC, flea market this weekend. Not a bad selection of cool rocks coming from a dude who was literally selling trombones out of an old garbage can. He told me that he acquired all the rocks from Utah, what does that mean logistically? Couldn’t tell ya! Probably came from a storage unit in Utah for all I know. Anyways, I picked the coolest ones but of course, I have no clue what they are. Oh! and he kept them in a 3ft tall rusty ammo can. The joys of urban rock hounding. They all seem to be pretty hard, I haven’t done any scratch tests yet. 1. This is the entire haul! Well over 12 pounds!!…..The pocket knife is for scale but mainly aesthetics 😎 2. Not sure about this one, it’s really purple in color. Some kind of quartz I think. 3. top side, still caked with mud The guy selling the rocks said this was some kind of onyx? 4. Not sure exactly what this is but my daughter calls it “dinosaur bacon” lol 5. Agate of sorts? Not sure what kind though 6. not sure what this one is, it seems pretty fragile, just kind of broke apart as I was trying to cut it. 7. another agate of sorts, I think… 8. Not a clue….petrified poppy seed butter maybe haha! It’s hard but it’s light weight it seems.

I can’t help you with any IDs, but I love your daughter’s description of dinosaur bacon!

Nice looking haul for $20! Way to go!
#3 looks like a Brown Lace Onyx (It looks like Silver Lace Onyx...except it's brown...)
#4 looks like Wonderstone...
#7 I thought was a Montana Agate at first...but I'm not too sure
#8 - No clue...but I really like the looks of that one!

#8 could be Burro Creek dendritic opalite. I have some very similar pieces I have found there.

Don't sweat the specific id's. You had a great rock hunting experience and selected good material for lapidary. I see agates, I see wood, I see wonderstone. Go forth and make them prettier or cherish them as they are.

I like Burro Creek for #8. This piece will cab very well.
