I decided to look for some Montana rough. The person who I was buying it from on ebay is not listing any. I found another seller and messaged him asking for premium Montana. He replied that he would add some listings for A grade Montana last night. This morning I found the listing and bought. It was about $10 a pound delivered for 10 pounds. Hard to tell how I did until I start cutting but I thought I would take a chance. www.ebay.com/itm/255286464518

I got a $17 shipping refund which amounts to 15% off the combined order. I asked for nodules that would cut in a 10 inch saw. My HP has a vertical vise so I should be able to cut some slabs without having to glue. Mid 40's now so I will cut instead of grind.

I can't wait to see what you end up with for cuts on these!

I haven't read any of his books or similar. I've made a lot of Montana cabs and appreciate the variety in appearance. I have some unusual ones. They aren't a good seller for me, but Montana is a favorite material. I'll post some pictures tomorrow including batman. I have over 50 Montana cabs. These are some better ones not listed on Etsy. Top left Bat Man, bottom right is an Owl peeking down from the top right of the cab. Second row left purchased at a rock shop in Oregon while on vacation.

It is even more fun to go to the Yellowstone and find them. Then cut them. Kind of like tying your own flies.

From Billings almost to ND. Glendive is good if you get there before the locals clean it out. Forsyth can be real nice if you get there when the water is right. Just beware the dam if you are in a boat. It kills people. The rumor is that there is some fantastic stuff at Livingston, but I have never found even one there.

Is this material hard to come by now? I’ve known about it for a while, but as far as price per pound and rarity, I have no clue.

From personal experience it is very common, but top grade is much harder to find. Buying a parcel online, most won't be very good. Many nodules show little of what is inside.
