I thought I'd join the club and say hi. I'm Kim. I reside in Phoenix, Arizona with my hubby. I've been a life long rock hound but my obsession has gotten worse over the past two years. We hike a lot and my pockets and pack are usually full of rocks by the time we get back to the trail head. I want to learn more about identifying what I've already picked up as well as learning what to pick up in the future and polishing my finds. I have a Lortone tumbler on order/shipped. I am so excited to polish some of the rocks I have already picked up. I eventually would like to get a vibratory tumbler as well. I also have questions about polishing some of the rocks I don't think would survive a tumbler. I'm super excited to explore the forum further.
Thank you all for your knowledge and patients in advance!

Welcome from Charles Town WV. (Think John Brown's pre-Civil War raid.) Like you, I'm new to this hobby. I have learned a lot from the folks here, but also via simple trial and error. Just remember, keep notes!

KimmersWelcome from North Idaho. We’re glad to have you here. Try to get cloudinary set up so you can post photos. Which Lortone did you get? They’re very good tumblers. You should get many years out of it.

Starguy; the hubby got the tumbler for me, I know it's a double-barrel but I am not sure the model number. It's currently in Washington delayed due to weather. I'll try to figure out the cloudinary and get some photos of some of my finds soon. I know the majority of my finds are milky quarts. I think I've picked up some jasper as well but I am still learning how to ID rocks. It's been a long time since I took geology in college.

I'll try to figure out the cloudinary and get some photos of some of my finds soon. I know the majority of my finds are milky quarts. I think I've picked up some jasper as well but I am still learning how to ID rocks. It's been a long time since I took geology in college. Kim, Brent (Starguy) might not see that you responded to him like this. There's a couple ways to do it. One is to hit the "Quote" button like I just did by quoting your post above. It'll take you to the "Create Post" page with his quote in it (or yours in this case). The other way to do it is to put the symbol @ before someone's name. If you want to do it this way, make sure to hover your mouse (on a PC) above their username...sometimes what you see isn't always the same as their username - although in most case it is. So, for Brent, you'd put @ before starguy like this: Starguy. You'll know if you did it right if it turns yellow and you can't see the @ once you've created the post... Hope this helps a little. *Sorry your tumbler is having shipping delays...maybe it's just trying to teach you more patience...which is the number one ingredient in tumbling! LOL

Hello and welcome from near Wickenburg, Arizona. Glad you joined up. Hope you can make it over to Quartzsite for the RTH BBQ on Friday, Jan. 21st. There is a thread on here for that I think in the section of Life, the universe, and everything.
