About 2 months ago I posted a large slab of Lajitas Mesa (Texas Big Bend area) Wood I had cut. It was collected over 20 years ago and I carried it out about a mile over pretty rough ground. Ended up cutting more big slabs from the same piece and have polished 3 of them. Have 1 more to polish and have about 3 inches of the original piece left to cut another slab leaving an end piece to polish. These do not quite have the mirror finish as the recent "Seal Rock" Flint. I notice that lots of large pieces of Petrified Wood have slightly softer spots that resist the high shine. I will probably keep one slab and sell the rest. All 3 together; IMG_3843 by Findrocks, on Flickr And each seperately; IMG_3845 by Findrocks, on Flickr IMG_3847 by Findrocks, on Flickr IMG_3849 by Findrocks, on Flickr

Henry, those are spectacular specimens! Do you know which one you're going to keep...as in do you have a favorite out of the three?

Of course I have to cut the remainder which I haven't figured out how to clamp it in the saw. I need to build a block of wood using a 4 X 4 and a 4 X 6 and then glue to that. Will probably let my wife pick the one she likes best.

Forgot to add that these were polished on a 20 inch Vib Lap. I added several lead weights to each slab to facilitate the lapping process.
