Went to lost Creek state park, just south of Newport. Hit it at low tide. Found lots of agates. For you coasties who enjoy beach agates, this would be a good stop for you to hit. I left a couple big handfuls of agates up at the parking lot on the bench for other hounds.

I've found a lot of nice stuff there. We're having a nasty wind storm right now. The ocean swells are up to 25' just offshore. There's going to be a King Tide tomorrow at noon, that should be some interesting wave watching. The beach will probably be too dangerous for hounding for a few days.

I didn’t take any pics unfortunately. one of the cooler finds was a moss agate. I’d imagine the hounding will be good after the storm. Maybe I’ll see you around one of these days. I’m actually pretty new to the hounding scene on the coast.

Amygdule, is that surge pushing water back up into the creek? Yes, that is a storm surge from the ocean, pushing up the creek.

Is that all tumbled rock on the beach? If so, I bet there are some good agates in there. That's all beach cobble. Mostly basalt and some mudstone concretions. Most of the agate and jasper in there is small, in the 2" minus range. If your really lucky, you may find a potato that weighs a pound or more. Lost Creek is a really popular rockhound destination and has been pretty much picked over . If your persistent and put in the time, you can still find some good stuff. There has been times in the past where that beach has been completely covered in rocks. Here's a few pics from this morning, 01/06/2022

What a wild area...thanks for putting these up. It's like a foreign beach to me.

I actually wasn’t even aware that it was a well known rockhounding area. I’m currently stationed out of Corvallis for the next 5 months and have been driving my dog there to run on the beach. My coast hounding knowledge is very limited tbh. I’m normally the type to look for new deposits. Don’t know enough about the landscape west of the cascades to do be overly productive. I see someone in the area on YouTube managed to find some nice green jasper. I’ve got the area narrowed down between Lincoln and Newport and it’s right on the beach on a hill side. But that’s as far as I’ve gotten.
