Now, I understand the challenge. Make a perfect oval cab and then drop it on a concrete floor for a new natural edge....LOL This is such an interesting challenge. The bar is already set very high with all of the excellent entries. Still, I went outside today to cut some rocks and dance between the snowflakes. I have an idea to try, just for fun. If nothing else, I will learn something. Well, that didn't take long. The rock fell apart during shaping. I started with a stone with exposed silver on two exterior sides and ended up with a piece of plate silver (silver vein). I will have to put on my thinking cap.

Jason that's pretty darn cool. We've been bust fishing but we may still get an entry in I hate to ask, but please describe that kind of fishing. I love fishing, but have been known to get distracted too.

Here's one of the other ones I had considered...but once I finished it, I thought it looked exactly like it had been dropped and broken! LOL

Jasper / opal / botryoidal chalcedony swirl from the China Hollow mine near Biggs Junction, Oregon. You can call it Biggs Opal for short. Full size photos for Tommy : drive.google.com/file/d/1KOy6kw8foqTJje7v6DGwsPy3WQZ3ISTL/view?usp=sharingdrive.google.com/file/d/1KeXAcVa1vzJTkdVK5RQgnr72NQdFZbCh/view?usp=sharingThis is the slab, although I ended up using the other side. A winter memory: the 2014 super polar vortex of death, despair, and destruction (or whatever the media was calling it). The temperature in SE Michigan reached -20 F with wind chills as low as -40 F. I'm not sure if this is a favorite memory, but I can remember vividly that it hurt to breath. I also recall frost forming on the wall of a poorly heated stairway that led to the basement. My wife, Silvana, had moved here just a few years earlier from Ecuador. As you may have guessed from the name (and if you didn't already know) -- Ecuador is right on the equator. The walls don't freeze in Ecuador. A cold night in her mind was 45 degrees before moving to Michigan. She was pretty freaked out by the Polar Vortex and starting saying things like... what's going to happen if all of the walls in the house freeze? If I had car trouble, how long would it take for me to freeze to death? She didn't divorce me and return to Ecuador, so that was a plus.

holajonathan - Great submission! I really like how this one finished! That botryoidal "canyon" turned out amazingly beautiful! Thanks by the way! I totally forgot to submit my "most memorable or favorite story about something that happened during winter"! I'll put it here, then add it to my submission post: So, I met my wife in April 2013. We had only known each other for 6 months when the "Blizzard of 2013" hit in October. We knew the weather was turning, so she came over and we decided to ride out the storm together. Well, the storm hit...and it hit hard! We had snow that piled up and drifted to the point it was literally over the height of the doors! I had one door and one door only that opened inward. The rest of the doors had storm doors that opened outward. So, with the snow totals, we could only open the one door. I had a picture of that door being open and there just being a wall of snow from floor to ceiling. Anyway, we lost power and were without it for five days. No heat. No water. No way to cook food. No way to make coffee! We "survived" on bologna sandwiches and Mountain Dew! We put the food from the freezer outside in snow drifts to keep it frozen. The heat held enough in the house for the first few days, so I didn't want the frozen food to thaw. We finally got power on that fifth day. My neighbor to the south has a Bobcat (thankfully!) and he came over and dug out the driveway - I'd say he plowed, but there was so much snow, there was no "plowing" - it all had to be scooped and dumped! Well, my wife and I had a blast being "stuck" together for five days. No escape possible! LOL - We figured if we could make it through that without wanting to choke each other, we should be able to make it through pretty much everything! We got married 8 months later.

That Dryhead is very cool. That is the druzy stuff from nodules near the surface of the deposit. Incredible but when I went on a dig there, the waste piles were loaded with huge nodules of that material that was discarded as folks were hunting for the nice fortification agates in the layer about four to six feet down. I was always sorry I did not fill buckets full of those nodules.

Here's my entry. Thunder egg? Came in a mix box from roy a while back. Wasn't sure I'd get one done this time around! [Edit] adding the name from Roy: agate from mexico next to the cathedral claim called ghost Favorite winter memory: getting pulled being a 4 wheeler on a sled as a kid trying to tip my brother over. What a blast.
