24 still running great, got one bearing that is a bit noisy tho. It is making the cut as I type!. the squaring cut I am making would be good material for carving, if one was so inclined!

woodman wiggle the blade end of that arbor shaft forcefully, if it's starting to move back and forth at all be careful, the long arbor shafts on round rail saws are a weak point. I got inserts for the Sealmaster NP12 bearings on a HP 14" from McGuire once, they may have them for the NP16 as well, if that is still what's on the saw. Doing it without unbolting the pillow blocks keeps the alignment. You can PM or call me too, still the same number.

All I know is, if someone doesn't make a cab out of stinking water golden oak, i'm going to be a sad camper. Well, I have a nice piece that had made it to the top of my list but now I think there's too much pressure to perform

My submission for this months contest. Unknown pet wood from right here in the Yellowstone river. Shaped and polished on my homemade flat lap. I forgot to get a picture of the slab but here's the other half. And here's the cab. I really like the black and the brown tones in that one Lunk! You can definitely see the grain in the brown area! Way to get this underway!

Great job lunker! That's a nice shine. The girdle looks good, the dome too, oh yeah, and did I mention the polish? Great job.

My submission for this months contest. Unknown pet wood from right here in the Yellowstone river. Very nice cabochon and definitely woody! I also cut a piece from the Yellowstone yesterday - very woody looking on the outside but when I lopped off the ends it was mostly just black inside. I don't have very much pet wood and it's a piece that has sentimental value as it was collected by the father (now deceased) of my wife's best friend, and passed to me to see what I can do with it, so I'm not giving up on it just yet. I think I will try a horizontal rind cut and grind down till it just meets the black and see what happens.

Luckily it still had some woodiness toward the edge.

It works on some and not on others. there is only one way to find out and it is cheap and easy. do it after polishing tho. the bleaching effect does not go into the wood very far at all.

I have some pieces with black I may have to try that on.
