Forgive me if this is already posted somewhere; I couldn't find it using search or any other method. I really like the "Participated" feature on this site; it helps me keep track of new posts in threads where I, well... participated. However, sometimes I may no longer be interested in a particular thread and would prefer not to see "New" on the "Participated" button for those particular threads. I would like to be able to 'unsubscribe' from some threads (so I don't get notified), but leave others unaffected. I am curious to know if there is way to accomplish this already? If not, consider this some site feedback . Thank you!

There is a box you can uncheck so you can unsubscribe

MsAliThere are checkboxes in the "Participated" modal/pop-up window, but unsubscribing is not one of the options. Is this what you are referring to? If not, where can I see what you are referencing? Thank you for your response!

Looking at it. I don't think you can remove it

You will be notified when there's a new post. When you want to stop the notifications just unbookmark it for that thread. The bookmark is at the top of a thread under the "actions" box.

I think the better way to accomplish what you want to do is bookmark the threads as you participate in them. You will be notified when there's a new post. When you want to stop the notifications just unbookmark it for that thread. I haven't yet tried it, but I don't think that will work. I suspect that the web designers created two independent functions... One controlled by the website (Participated) and the other by the end user (Bookmarks). Of course, it could be that setting and then unsetting a Bookmark in a Participated thread *could* reset them both, but I tend to doubt it.
(FWIW, if I were writing the code, I wouldn't give an end user the ability to reset the Participated field, simply because it would probably mess up the user's stats.)

Interesting... I just found a way to reset a thread's "NEW" status. But, that doesn't reset either the Participated setting OR the user's last-read spot in the thread.

Okay, I think that I may have figured this out...
CAVEAT: I am not an Admin here and I have not tested this.
The next time a thread appears in your Participated box, before going into it, Select it. Then under the Actions menu choose Mark as Read. Now hover your mouse cursor over the "Mark as Read" and choose Forever. Or whatever period you want.
Hopefully, (fingers crossed), this works for you.
If this works, I suspect that you could force multiple threads into "Forever Read" status by manually resetting them to "New" and then resetting them again to "Read Forever". Just a thought...

I don't have the participated box checked on my profile page, because I just don't want all of those notifications. I get enough being quoted or tagged. I don't really have a need to see every post by every person in every thread. I do find that just by using the Recent Topics link I can see what's been the most active since I was last on and using bookmarks, I get a notification on any threads I have bookmarked (like the recipe thread).

Agree, had never even looked under the "Participated" tab before I read this topic. Don't see it as being very useful to me. I always start with "Recent Posts" and just go down through those. If I see a Notification I will look at it. I am sure I have missed some post especially if I am traveling away from home for a few days. I only access this Forum from my laptop. Don't have a Smartphone as I have never seen the need for one and I sure would not want to read any of this on a phone.

This seems like the kind of thing I was looking for; I will give it a shot! Thank you!

I find it useful when someone adds to a thread I've started, not everyone tags or quotes (and rightfully so), so I can see the follow up conversation.

Since it looks like the "Mark as Read > Forever" appears to remove the "NEW", I will probably use that to disconnect the welcome and birthday threads and leave everything else alone.
