I finished my cab early this time. Just gotta get some pictures that don’t look like I took them with a potato. Tell me about it! Taking decent photos of small ones is extremely hard. I had a small square finished and could not get a decent photo of it, so I made a bigger one and was still hard to get a good shot of it. I finally just went with the best one and moved on!

Yes, Woodman, it can be difficult to make pictures of small objects. Light orientation is especially tricky for me.

That's a nice one jasoninsd , I like it has a good dome Thank you so much! I wasn't sure how I wanted to do the dome, but opted for this one. LOL I love how these all look like framed paintings. Another beautiful cab Jason Thanks Chad! I checked the dang thing for square before I took it off dop, it looked good. Then taking the pictures, I see I put too much pressure towards the corners and rounded them slightly going into the corner. Next time I know to work the girdle horizontally to the wheel, rather than vertically. Lesson learned. I could rework it, and if it was going to be bezel set, I would...but since I'm going to wire-wrap it, this actually works out better for the corners. LOL

Are you sure you don't cab only squares jasoninsd? That's a great one. I love picture jaspers, and you pulled that one off perfectly. How many cabs did you choose from for this month's contes?

That's a nice cab agatewhisperer! Good thing it survived! I've had similar experiences in the garage with them surviving... one time it made it almost to the ceiling (15ft) and came back down on the concrete floor to survive. That's a very nice stone.

perkins17 - Thanks Perk! I only picked out and cut one preform for the contest this month. If it didn't work out...back to the drawing board! LOL agatewhisperer - Whew! Thank goodness that one survived!! That's a beauty!

So my cube proved too controversial (although it was square), besides the fact that I honestly made it a month or more ago, so technically not a valid entry. My first time entering & only my 8th cab to date - the contest is a nice challenge. I started out wondering if I could make one good enough to enter, and figured I'd just try it privately. But I managed for better or worse..... So here's my entry - I had a little hiccup when my 3000 wheel on my new cabber starting breaking down - but a new JB's wheel did the trick & showed up faster than I thought. I believe it's Mexican Flame Agate (which still needs the back polished ! :-) and is approx 1" square.

The 8th to date is lookin' great!
That last shot is a clever way to show the slab with the cab if you don't have a photo of the marked slab. How did you make the crosscut to set it free?

A couple of years ago my husband set me up a 9" Craftsman Bandsaw with a diamond blade & we rigged up a drip coolant system & a built up base ( to keep the saw out of the water), and that's what I use to cut preforms. This one I had to cut a little oversize to cut the corner, but the saw blade is only an 1/8" wide, so I can cut a pretty tight corner, and not waste a lot of rock
I'm on my second blade now.
Personally I thought it was fun to show the cab in the cut out . But here's the marked slab.

I love how this contest is going - so many great entries. I'm not feeling really confident about it myself but I am going to try to start one tomorrow ...

Patty, for your 8th cab I'm even 8 times more impressed. Outstanding effort.

Well, I do still have plans to enter and I'm happy to report that I have the material narrowed down to the Misc. Thundereggs drawer... For whatever reason I noticed that I marked up a lot of rectangle shapes on the t-egg preforms so that settles it lol. I think this Lucky Strike piece will be "the one..."
